Hylton Performing Arts Center was great! They have 3 areas where they have programs, shows, or events. We went to see Prince William Little Theatre's production of Anne of Greene Gables. (Side Note: PWLT is not a children's theater like the name suggests.) That same night Manassas Ballet Company was also performing. The timing was perfect. The Ballet had already started before we arrived & their music was playing softly on mini TVs placed on the walls & through their speakers. When the show ended the Ballet was already gone. AoGG played in their black box Theatre which provides endless possibilities. The show itself was Amaaaaaaaaazing! The cast was brilliant. They kept to the original classic while also putting their own spin on it. HPAC is beautiful! The staff is friendly and helpful. And even when its busy the lobby flows well. PWLT had an amazing cast. Most of the characters start out around 10 or so and interact with each other through college near the end of the Victorian Era. One of the cast members was in MS (7th grade i think) and you never would have known! She was phenomenal. I can't wait to see where she goes. The actual who played Anne was great too. Played Anne just over the top enough...Anne is over the top herself. And the parental figures in the play had great talent! Marilla Cuthbert was non nonsense with a touch of sarcastic humor and I loved it! I was very impressed. If you get a chance to see PWLT perform I highly...
Read moreLove this place — this is a gem for Manassas and for Prince William County. This place is designed as an Opera House, not just an auditorium. That means that the space is very vertical with multiple levels and that everyone is ultimately pretty close to the stage with a good view no matter where your seat is. So, when you see the giant architectural volume jutting towards the sky outside, be ready to experience the interior space that is open to nearly the same size — very dramatic!!! I did not catch the exact opera house, but apparently the Hylton Center is designed closely after one in France. The modern elements of the architecture are really well designed — I particularly appreciated the winding staircase to the various levels of box seats. I also liked the way that the exterior copper skin finds its way into the interior lobby space — a nice connection between the inside and the outside of the architecture. The people working here are great. The acoustics during our performance were very good. For a moment I thought I was at the Kennedy...
Read moreThe Hylton Performing Arts Center is a modern, clean facility with large and small theatres - and so convenient to Manassas. On the Manassas campus of George Mason University. Ample FREE parking. Very easy to get to. I am grateful for a theatre option in the suburbs, because I don't drive in Washington, D.C. anymore.
I've attended many events here, including concerts, musicals, and ballet. The local Manassas Ballet Theatre is surprisingly good with talented dancers and exquisite costumes - I enjoyed watching the troupe dance Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet to a live orchestra in May 2017. I saw them dance the Nutcracker in Dec. 2017 and Swan Lake in Mar. 2018. It's reasonably priced, especially if you choose a local theatre group production (recently I saw Shrek, Mulan, and Oklahoma).
I buy tickets online at the Hylton website, choose my seats, and print the tickets at home. So convenient and saves the theatre...
