This beach is very beautiful. Not much places for natural shelter and shade though so bring something to protect yourself from the sun like: umbrella, tent, tarp, etc. Make sure you also arrive very early to the beach to get a good parking spot. This beach is popular and if you're there way past 8-8:30am, there is already very few good spots to park at. The beach is very nice and calm, basically you're in a cove. At low tide, there is a compact sand beach that gets exposed and you're able to walk around it close to the rock barrier that protects the cove where the swimmers are. Be safe about it though and don't try to get too close to the crash zone, the waves and current on the other side are extremely powerful. Around that area, you'll find a lot of sea life like: sea urchins, fish, seaweed, kelp and other sea creatures none are aggressive and it is safe to observe them, but again respect them and keep a safe distance from the urchins to avoid any injury....

Playa Tómbolo is harder to get to than other beaches on the Atlantic coast. Obviously, Google Maps can help you get there. But the roads are rough, narrow, and could do some (ahem) damage to a rental car.
Locals know the way, and also know the etiquette for passing on the narrow gravel road, and parking without blocking each other's cars.
Once you're there, bring that cooler you packed with cold drinks, fresh fruit and snacks, and your chairs, sunscreen, insect repellent, towels, goggles, boombox, and the other thousand things everyone brings for a day at the beach.
