🌟🌲 Hemlock Falls Trail at South Mountain Reservation 🌲🌟
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Had an AMAZING time hiking the Hemlock Falls Trail in South Mountain Reservation! 🌿🚶🏾♀️✨ If you’re looking for a place that’s got everything—stunning waterfalls 💧, fairy-tale vibes 🧚🏾♀️, and beautiful autumn leaves 🍂—this is IT!
I stuck to the white and yellow blazed trails, which made it easy to explore, even though I got lost (on purpose and not on purpose 😂). But honestly, that’s where the magic happens—wandering through the beautiful woods, finding unexpected views, and soaking in all the nature. 🍁💚
One of the highlights? Meeting Jim, a fellow hiker who turned my detour into a day of laughs and good vibes! 🙌🏾 Sometimes, getting a little lost leads you to the best company and the most beautiful spots. 🌲😊
The Hemlock Falls were absolutely breathtaking—worth every step of the hike! 🌊💧 The sound of the water, surrounded by fall colors, felt like stepping into another world. Truly a perfect escape from the everyday hustle.
Special shoutout to the trail maintenance team and the kind human I met clearing branches and keeping the paths clean! 🌿🙌🏾 Your work keeps these trails beautiful for all of us to enjoy. Remember, everyone: take in, take out! Let’s keep our nature spaces clean and pristine! ♻️🚮
Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a peaceful nature walk, Hemlock Falls Trail is a gem! 🌳💚 Can’t wait to get “lost” again!

Read more2 waterfalls for the price of one! This is an easy hike that was great for this time of year. There was a race at the park today so parking was a little bit dicey. Tulip Springs parking is your best bet though there is another smaller lot slightly closer. The start of the Hemlock Falls trail (yellow lenape trail) was well signed and blazed. Easy walk to the first waterfall, Hobble Falls. Its easily climbed but viewfrom the top is only...meh...not worth it...continue on to Hemlock around the bend. Both falls were flowing nicely today after good rain but im certain that summer months are less impressive. Hemlock can be very beautiful when frozen. Stairs take you up to the top via the red dot white trail. The rocks at the top are slippery and hard to balance on even with boots so be very mindful! Blazing on the reddot white trail is only mediocre, its very easy to come off the trail. You must also stream cross...
Read moreA beautiful serene spot in the heart of Essex County. Hemlock falls is one of the most popular spots in South Mountain Reservation and for good reason. The falls cascade 25 feel over the Watchung basalt. The flow is highly variable. During a drought it can slow to a trickle, but after a heavy rain the flow can increase so much the trail to the falls can get washed out. The nearest parking is about a half mile from the falls but the lot is tiny so you may be in for a longer hike so see the falls. Before you get to Hemlock Falls make sure to check out the nearby Black Rock Falls also known as Hobble Falls. The trail continues up a set of stairs where you can view the falls from above. Definitely worth exploring the entire area. The falls can also freeze solid...
