The lake is perfect for anyone who enjoys the water but prefers a more laid-back atmosphere. The lake itself is really big, and the water is relatively clean, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing day on the water. It’s full of fish, which makes it a great place for fishing, and the surrounding forest provides scenic views and plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife. One of the most beautiful features of the lake is the abundance of lily pads, which add to the peaceful and natural atmosphere.

The main area of the lake is very well maintained and includes two boat ramps and a dedicated kayak launch ramp, which makes getting on the water easy. For those who don’t own a boat or kayak, rentals are available nearby, so everyone has a chance to enjoy the lake.

There are also several pull-off areas around the lake where you can stop for lunch on land, many of which include kayak launch ramps for convenient access back onto the water.

A few things to know before you go: there’s both an entrance fee per vehicle and a boat launch fee per boat. You will be required to pay the boat launch fee even if your boat is registered or you have a state launch permit. Veterans get the entrance fee waived, but still have to pay the boat launch fee. Dogs are welcome on boats but aren’t allowed to swim, and no swimming is allowed in the lake at all.

Trailer parking is up a hill and a bit far from the water, which makes hauling kayaks a hassle, and the spaces aren’t pull-through, so it can get tight on busy days. Bathrooms are also a bit of a walk, but they’re clean and well kept.

Overall, even with the fees and parking quirks, Piney Run Lake is a really scenic, calm, and well-maintained place to spend time on the water or enjoy nature. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a quiet...

Delightful, peaceful lake hike. Very shady in a hot day. An unusual amount of lily pads. Would love to come back and see them when they are in bloom later in the summer. Tip:...

An awesome area to spend with friends and family and kids. You would especially love the area if you like kayaking and boating. You can rent boats from morning until sunset.
