South Mountain State Battlefield Park is adjacent to Apallachian Trail and it contains the Washington Memorial. The hiking trail branches off onto several vistas, overlooking both sides of the ridge. There's a beautiful view onto the Catoctin range. We came here in late February, with couple of feet of snow on the ground, but the trail was well trodden so the hiking...

Road was closed but said "we're open". Yeah a parking area is open then you have to hike up the mountain. Don't go here if the road isn't open. There really isn't anything here related to South mountain except the information center. Big joke, visit Antietam, don't waste your...
