This trail is asphalt out and back 0.4 mile up and 0.4 miles downhill from the parking lot. There was a storm that blew through just before we arrived. The clouds rolled in and made the view mostly obscured but it was still a fun little hike. There are not many places along the parkway to walk except along the road itself but it was worth getting out and stretching the legs. It took us about 30 minutes to go up and back. The NPS has a weather station near the top. THe tower itself has ramps that go to the top of the tower. The platform provides for 360 degree views. The parking area was large and was also access to the Foothill Parkway West Overlook #6 On that day. There were a few cars and sight seekers that day and we had to wait until people cleared out of the way to take our pictures. The view platform is small but it was worth the wait. The view from the top was definitely worth the hike. The Look Rock parking area was the last open portion of the Foothills parkway. We were able to use a road near the campground to exit the parkway to Happy...
Read moreLook Out Rock viewing platform is a steep trail but worth the views which are beautiful. I would suggest comfortable shoes and a bottle of water for the hike up. It is paved but can be slippery depending on weather with a ramp up to the tower , no steps. For those who are in an accessible situation, wheel chair this trail will be difficult but do not fret because at the entrance parking is spacious and clean and includes van accessibility parking. ♿️ These parking spots have a ramp immediately attached to the free parking spaces that lead to a short observation deck opposite side of the street of the viewing tower that make it easy to view the beautiful mountain tops and parts of Tennessee. Even if you are unable to do the trail you can get some of the best views compared to any other scenic stops along Parkway. I would recommend to anyone accessible or not for the some of the most beautiful views in...
Read moreThis is a great stop along the foothills parkway. The hike to the observation tower was uphill all the way, but still doable for us out of shape older folks. The path is paved, but roughly so. This would not be suitable for a wheelchair, just too steep and rough. The trail meets the service road near the top and passes an air quality monitoring station. There is a series of 3 ramps at the end to get to the platform where you get one of the best views in the area. At the parking lot, there is another outlook which is nice as well. There is no bathroom at the parking lot, but a very, very short drive to the east is a campground and picnic area and there are bathrooms at the...
