First - the name of Cape Cod Children's Museum is a bit misleading. This is not a museum, it's an interactive play place. Because of the name, I actually didn't try to learn more about this location until friends and family wanted to take their children to it. Note to owner - we all thought it was a museum (which, as the dictionary states, "is a place or building where objects of historical, artistic, or scientific interest are exhibited, preserved, or studied.")
We were pleasantly surprised to find out it's an interactive play place, which allows kids to "learn" about science elements such as sound, weight, air pressure and more. There are several stations as you can see in their excellent "See Inside" view. To check that out, go to Google Maps and drop the PinMan directly on their building or simply click "See Inside" on the images.
Inside the location are fun, easy to play with stations that give kids the opportunity to climb a pirate style ship, use air to make balls hover, play music and more. There are also a few rooms off the side which hold fun, interactive sessions lead by friendly staff.
Overall, this is a great play place for kids. It's not large, but it will keep your children entertained, has AC (important during the summer!), and they may learn something fun!
Pro tip - it can get pretty busy here, and with this comes the usual issue of big kids running over little kids to play with the stations/exhibits. I suggest going right at opening time, or off hours. Call ahead if during a week day to see if there are good...
Read moreI brought my twins down the Cape for the weekend. We googled nearby activities and up pops the Children's Museum, I assumed it would be just like any other little museum we have been too. However it is absolutely not. Warmly greeted, directed us to everything we might need. I am COVID crazy- it was so clean. So many different learning tools I havent seen yet. Music, but using all types of instruments the kids had not seen. Log cabin, fishing area, submarine, vet area, floating balls, puzzles. Not just matching the pieces but actually forming a shape or letter so the kids really needed to try and figure it out. The handkerchief in a tube was there jam. They loved that one. I am pretty sure she was the owner (painting a boat in the corner) was so nice, chatting and giving a little history to me on the museum while the kids played. Just so many fun things my little ones had yet to experience and it was awesome. As we were finishing up my son, had the biggest meltdown. Biting, kicking, scratching me it was a nightmare. The other woman that was at the desk - was SO sweet and calm and gave me advice in the moment and I really needed it. She didnt side eye me or make me feel bad she told me I was doing great and to hang on and it just stuck with me. Loved the entire experience, next visit down the Cape we will ABSOLUTELY be...
Read moreThis is a great spot for a rainy day with young kids (I would say 6 and under). It’s very play-based so if you want a more of a science museum it’s not like that. It’s one big room, maybe the size of a high school gym. It’s easy to keep track of your kids that way. There are a lot of different areas to play in especially for young kids: pirate ship, music, water play, different “houses” with toys, a submarine, and more. There’s an outdoor area but it was a wet morning so I didn’t see it. The hours are also great, it’s nice to have a place that opens at 9 AM when you have early risers. It seems like the owners are pretty responsive so a few things I thought about. A few areas could use small step stools so smaller kids can see and play (like the water area). I think having kids be 6+ to use the STEM area is a little old, my son is 4 and loves magna tiles and building. There was an empty part that’s used for shows that was unique. If you have grandparents along it could end up being pretty pricey because all adults have to pay, but they had reciprocity for our membership at our local children’s museum. I’m definitely glad I came and I would recommend it for anyone with young kids who needs to let...
