This trail is mostly paved, a wide and easy space for the many people who frequent it. It extends from John Street a couple of miles 2 an entrance at the Matthews community Center, just off South trade Street. Halfway between is squirrel Lake Park.
The trail isflanked by a varied display of trees and shrubs, some planned but most of it natural. It follows the creek, with occasional crossovers and access points for kids and puppies to enjoy. Squirrel Lake Park itself is quite attractive, with a big and well-used playgrounds, a hillside with shelters and tables down to the fishing lake, which is pretty well used and includes a dock and the ever-present geese. there are several places where the trail divides and you can access nearby neighborhoods, adding to the interest of the walk. Read moreEnjoyed walking this greenway to Squirrel Lake Park and back with husband. The trail continues further but this was our first time, so we explored the park a bit as well. We parked on E. John St., but realized there is also parking in Squirrel Lake Park that would be off road and closer to restrooms. The trail was very nice. It follows little waterways and has beautiful scenic areas. Large parking at Squirrel Park, or a few parking spots on John St in Matthew's. Restrooms and a large playground for kids. Some picnic tables around and a large covered area with many tables that can be rented for an occasion. Disc golf course and a lake that some people fish in. Watch out for the geese!
