Wow, super awesome. Heard parking could be dangerous, so we left presents on front seat with window rolled down and parked jeep. I told my wife “we haven’t done anything wrong - so just don’t worry.” People are good. Anyway, hike was super awesome, crossings super fun. Go slow enjoy, every once in awhile stop and look up, you’re in an amazing valley! My wife was ear to ear smiles! Keep hiking, when you get to the bamboo forest make sure to take pics- amazing. Keep hiking- a couple of challenging crossings (stay on dry rocks). Use all trails because near the end you have a choice- left to finish trail, right to head to waterfall. Take the right, rocky terrain for about ten minutes than you will start to hear water fall. When you get there jump up and sit by cave and take a pic. Yeah cool but time to get wet, get in the water and walk towards the rock shear wall 3’ Deep water and gradually deeper. The closer you get to the shear wall the more waterfall you see!!! Amazing and well worth the effort. On the way back make sure you stop for a minute there is a beautiful banyon tree that I actually missed on the way up. Super romantic spot for you husbands. My wife had a blast, she was so happy the whole hike. Note: no damage to our jeep everything cool. Than some idiot tourist on are way out yells at a local after he cut guy off- causing a yelling match. Locals seem sensitive but tourist guy was absolutely in the wrong. My advice- don’t try to control things you can’t enjoy the beautiful hike in Maui. People are good. Buy insurance if your wife is the...
Read moreBest hike so far on Maui. Parking is on the side of street, maybe room for 8 cars. Like others have said, leave nothing in it and unlocked and there's no worry.
Trail zig zags across a stream for approx 1.3 walking miles up to the falls. The paths are pretty visible but you're kind of on your own finding ways to cross the stream, which is between ankle and knee deep.
There's a nice little bamboo forest about halfway up.
Last 1000 yards sees some fairly steep and muddy stretches and a lot of in stream walking. Finishes in a 50+ foot high cavern w the falls on one side. There's a knotted rope that you can climb up the face of the falls if you're brave.
Overall it's a great hike... tons of water, tons of vegetation, some bugs...
Read moreWarning - Don’t leave your car. We never made it down the trail. There was broken glass everywhere from windows being smashed (look along road side). We also saw spray paint along the pull out that said “Kapu No Tourists”. Luckily we ran into some very kind locals at the start of the trail who told us not to leave our vehicle (even if it’s unlocked). They were also concerned. So we returned to our car and saw strange activity by two men with a drone. It seemed the drone was monitoring the road & cars (tracking us)…very sketchy. We followed the advice of the two locals who also left the area and skipped the waterfall hike. It was a bummer but not worth...
