I know there are taller waterfalls off the road towards Hana, but this one is a very fun adventure to get to find. My group all started out trying to carefully cross the river to keep their shoes dry. After about the 20th time crossing the river and getting the shoes wet anyway, we all just decided to not care anymore. The trail is about 2-3 miles into the falls, and you cross the river constantly. It make it a very scenic hike but not for those who want an easy well manicured hike. The hike is often a treasure hunt trying to spot the trail after it disappears into the river, but never all that difficult to find. The trail is a narrow trail that not only constantly crosses the river, but also cuts its way through a bamboo forest, where you really have to crawl under the bamboo in a spot. Many of us located nice strong hiking sticks and it was helpful to be able to have the 3 point system in hiking to keep you from slipping on slippery rocks or in one case where the trail got steep going up and then steep going down. If you are looking for an adventure that is away from the crowds this is perfect. We only saw 4 other people on the hike, and around every corner was another breathtakingly beautiful view. Loved it. #ShaunasAdventures dot com #LetsGuide #GoogleTrailGirl...
Read moreI think the name of this should actually be 13 Crossings. Makamakaole Stream is a slight bit up the road from this hike and the start is steep and looks out toward the ocean (and goes to some pools where you can jump off rocks into the water). This hike, 13 Crossings, goes toward the mountain. We loved it completely. We wore water shoes, which made it very easy to cross the water and walk on the rocks. It was a great hike for 11 and 13-year-old kids, slightly challenging, but lots of fun. We waterfalls with small pools in which to swim (and cool off). Took about 2 hours....
Read moreRead moreNice fun hike. The stream has langoustine in them and there are guava and fragrant ginger plants around. There is a fork in the path toward the end and each path leads to different falls. The right path is shorter with a large swimming area and falls. The left requires an extra 10min or so hiking and leads to a different falls. BEWARE-- There are break-ins were you park your car. We were hiking for about 2.5 hrs and when we returned, the car parked in front of us had his driver's side window broken! Dont...
