My husband and I went on a horseback riding experience at the Mendes ranch today. It was totally worth the time and the cost. To get there is a little bit of a trek but the experience more than made up for the drive. When we got there we were checked in by Teri who was involved in taking our reservation to begin with. Everyone at the ranch is very kind and friendly starting with Teri on the whole reservation and check-in experience to the entire team who were involved with us during our ridng session.
Initially, we were brought into an open porch area where Don, the team leader for us today, took us through a tutorial on horses and on riding. He did an outstanding job and I have never experienced such a well thought out presentation for a trail ride. Don used a mock up of a horse and a saddle to demonstrate what should and should not be done on a horse. I am an advanced Rider and I was particularly impressed with this entire tutorial. Then, they broke us up into three groups: an advanced group led by Don, an intermediate group led by Daeja and a beginner group led by Jordan. This was particularly well done because they put people together with other people of similar riding experience. This allowed us to ride freely and not always worry about the people behind or in front of you. At the midway point we were allowed to rest a little bit and to get some water and take photos. Jordan then took us through a discussion of the history of ranching in Hawaii and on Maui. This was great. It allowed us to just catch our breath as the information was very interesting Then, we finished the ride.
The ride is very beautiful. You go along the coastline and the view is spectacular. The ride had a lot of going downhill and uphill but, they matched the horse with the experience of the rider and this allowed people to feel comfortable on their horses.
My husband and I thoroughly recommend this experience! It was a fabulous and fun time with...
Read moreMy recent horseback riding adventure at Circle M Ranch was an experience straight from the heart. As an intermediate rider seeking both thrill and tranquility, Circle M Ranch surpassed all expectations.
From the very beginning, the wranglers at Circle M Ranch welcomed me with genuine warmth and professionalism. They took great care in matching me with Chief, a horse whose gentle demeanor and strength instantly forged a connection with me. Each step of the way, the wranglers shared their deep knowledge of Maui's rugged cliffs and lush landscapes, painting a vivid picture of the land's history and natural beauty.
The ride itself was nothing short of breathtaking. We ventured along the dramatic Maui cliffs, where Chief navigated with grace, offering a sense of adventure mixed with serene moments of reflection. As we moved through verdant meadows adorned with vibrant flowers, the beauty of the landscape unfolded around us, creating a backdrop that felt almost surreal in its splendor. Throughout the journey, the wranglers ensured our safety while allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience.
What truly touched me about this experience was the unwavering dedication and attention to detail shown by the wranglers. Their passion for horses and the outdoors shone through in every interaction, making the adventure not just memorable but deeply meaningful. They provided expert guidance with patience and encouragement, fostering an atmosphere where every rider felt supported and cherished.
In conclusion, my time at Circle M Ranch was a heartfelt journey of discovery and connection. Whether you're an intermediate rider like myself or simply seeking to reconnect with nature's wonders, Circle M Ranch offers an unparalleled experience. With its stunning scenery, well-trained horses like Chief, and a team of dedicated wranglers, Circle M Ranch stands out as a sanctuary where the spirit of adventure meets the tranquility of the...
Read moreI visited Mendes Ranch last week and Larry was our Cowboy. He was fantastic from start to finish in terms of both attitude and personality. It was my first time ever on a horse and the entire experience felt comfortable and safe. If you're visiting Mendes Ranch, you're probably coming from one of the tourist areas -- Kihei, Wailea, Lahaina, Kaanapali. The first thing you notice when getting close to the ranch is the incredible lush scenery -- you just know you're in for a good time.
The check in process was quick and easy. There's a parking lot where you wait to be checked in. Once everyone is accounted for, you're walked down to the staging area. They have two restrooms that were quite nice considering what I was expecting (running water, flushable toilets, locking doors -- NOT portapotties). They provide water and other beverages. Covid precautions are good -- sanitizer around, sinks with soap, masks required unless on a horse. You're then sized up on a horse that fits your riding level and size (I'm a big guy, so I got Big Red). He was very calm, but pretty stubborn. The horses looked healthy, clean, and well cared for.
Definitely wear long pants. I opted to sign the waiver for no helmet and am happy that I did so. I had absolutely 0 horse experience and never once felt unsafe on Big Red. The trail is scenic and you make a couple stops for pictures. Once you get on the horse, you cannot get off until you're back to the pen area -- so empty your bladder beforehand!
At the very end, they give you a chance to trot / gallop on your horse. Going into it, I thought there was no way I'd elect to do that (it's not forced, it's an option). But after 10 minutes on Big Red I felt comfortable enough for some speed.
Overall, I highly recommend this ride and I can't wait to do it again next time...
