Secrets, secrets, are no fun. Secrets, secrets hurt someone. My Family from Hawaii would loving call this place Macalma beach, to match our family name, drawing stares from other locals, i didn't care.

The secret about this place is that it's perfect. Easily accessible, fairly small, but relatively unknown, i feel bad for the local residents having so many people invade their neighborhood daily. I find the weddings they hold here to be wonderful and beautiful. In an island where many things are picturesque if your complaining about a wedding as a tourist you need to maybe be on vacation, instead of just going here. If your a local, there are other beaches and nothing to get huffy about. If you come early your ok, let the tourists have the afternoon. If your snorkelling here, there are better places, so really not worth it. It's the type of place you come to wade and enjoy, not swim or surf or snorkel. If you want to Surf go to Big Beach, if you want to snorkel go to Kamaole. If you want there is a nude beach area over at Little beach from time to time.

It's got a unique western view of Molokini & Kahoolawe and when the clouds are right, you get an almost changing sunset. It really is a magical place, but Kauaii will always...

Makena is one of my favorite beaches any where. I started going to Maui is the early 70's and lived in Kehei for a time and Lahaina which was a lot of fun back in the day. But we are talking about Makena. It is a large beach with a shore break not good for surfing but great for skim boarding when there is waves. Most of the time it is very calm more during the summer months. Good snorkeling, very clean clear water. There is a small beach on the other side of the point there called Little Makena a nude beach if that is what you like. The big beach is large beautiful, great views, good easy free parking, easy to find. The sand is what I really like. Very soft, clean, doesn't stick to you like most gritty sand we all think of when we think of sand. You may see turtles at times or whales outside breaching and splashing about. The snorkeling is very good not great but you will have lots of fun there. I was married to the Love of my life on this beach many years ago. So it has many fond memories. I now live on Kauai the oldest island and has many beautiful beach here also but Makena is still one of my favorite and is my...

I hate to update these. But here I go. This is our secret beach because parking is limited so go early. Bring a cooler with water and adult beverages and food. An umbrella is a must. Enjoy the day with family in the sun. 2/3 down the beach is an easy smooth entrance into the water. Watch out it can be slippery but the rock is very smooth and the gradient is easy for older folks. Great place to watch the whales calving and breaching.

Quiet beach mostly used by the hotels in the south. The large catamaran comes in for the tourists here. Parking is about 100 meters from the beach drop off. In the parking lot are bathrooms and showers. Over the small berm you will find a long beautiful beach. The snorkeling isnt great but the water had a smooth entry and the waves can be large enough for good body or boogy boarding. There aren't any restaurants or cafes bear by but there are food trucks about a 4 minute drive from the beach towards Makena. Door dash does deliver...

Our favourite beach! Free parking, slight walk to the beach, nothing crazy, nice washrooms, a rinse off station. Sandy hill or stairs to the beach, soft yellow sand. Went snorkeling but nothing to see in shallow end, some girls snorkeled near rocky cove on left and saw a puffer fish apparently. Also pick up spot on beach for this boat tour. When windy be cautious though, palm fronds were falling on sand from high up, would hurt if we're struck, also on way our a huge branch off tree fell onto path, so if exceptionally windy, keep an eye out, but we didn't have many windy days in Feb. Waves aren't too strong, no life guard that I saw though, there might be one closer to north end of beach. Well worth a visit!

Beautiful and very long sandy beach with trees and some vegetation for shade. At either end, there are some rocks that you can safely snorkel amongst. There are washrooms and freshwater showers at the main entrance. A small grassy area at the top where you can comfortably sit and enjoy the scenery. No lifeguard but it is a gradual entry into the water so good for kids. The wind did come up in the afternoon, as it always does on this side of the island, making the waves pretty big. So be cautious with the kids then. Decent amount of parking at the top in the public parking lot. And from there a short walk down the path to the beach access.

A quiet and relaxed beach to kick back and/or snorkel. It has a fairly steep relief from the top of the beach to the surf, so getting in and out of the water could be a little challenging if the waves are a bit strong. However, the waves today were easy enough that small children were running into and out of the water with no problems. There is a lane at the entrance to the beach to pull around and drop off gear. Just 400’ up the road is a small parking lot with a bathroom and outdoor shower. I was very happy with the beach and the amenities.
