Makena Landing Park — Attraction in Maui

This is one of my favorite snorkeling spots. It has a good variety of fish and a nice reef to the right. There can be some waves, though, and the sand bottom doesn't last long, so I wouldn't recommend if you are not a confident swimmer (as in you should be able to swim without needing to touch the bottom ever). This also helps keep the coral on the rocks safe because they live on the rocks you would step on. If you are more advanced and able to swim a ways out to the left, I saw eels, starfish, a turtle, and an octopus. I even somehow made it to where the tours were taking people (let me tell you, though, I swam a long, long ways).

The first time I went snorkeling here (May 2023), I saw a couple of turtles, including the biggest Green Sea Turtle I have seen to date eating off the rocks to the right (that's after snorkeling a variety spots on Oahu, the big island, Maui, Kauai, and Molokini crater). It was...

Perfect spot for swimming and snorkeling with lots of sea life- I have seen turtles galore here along with lots of other fish and shellfish. Not the best spot for vacationers.

This is because there is little room to hang out all day or bring the family. There is no beach space or sand, little room for sitting in the park, etc. This is really a place you go to sit your stuff down and get in the water to swim, dive, or snorkel. The waves can be high in this area, so it’s better for stronger swimmers. I particularly like going out around the rocks of the points which requires a longer swim in higher surf.

There are restrooms here, but no nearby resources like lifeguards, dive shops or even anything like restaurants and things like that. So this is better for people who are regular swimmers and snorkelers, locals, and those who are fairly...
