Itβs a man-made lake, the focal point of Pittsburgh area North Park. Apparently very well planned, it is built as a catchment along the stretch of Pine Creek. As such, it has sustained wildlife within the park.πππ.
πThere are notable Canada geese and wild ducks. π On occasions, there are deer and their fawns.
On several areas along the lake edge are protected pockets of marshes, home to many songbirds. Wild flowers have strewn themselves along the edges as well.πππ
It is a recreational lake: providing a venue for fishing, kayaking and paddle boards but no swimming (which is made possible in a separate pool built to north of the lake.
Surrounding the lake are paved trails as well as walking and biking trails in the immediate wooded areas.

Many many many places to fish either from the shore or you can find several places to launch your kayak from. At the boat house you can rent a kayak or paddle boat as well as find a bar and resturaunt. There's also a golf course and swimming pool. Plenty of picnic areas, pavillions and playgrounds to bring the whole family. In the winter theres an outdoor ice rink. Tennis courts and basketball courts the list could go on... There's off leash dog parks as well. Take it from me if you haven't visited yet and enjoy the outdoors get down to north park you won't regret it.... Unless you get skunked by one of the many fish...
