I give it a 2-star. I was born and raised in McKinney and lived in the area which used to be a landfill where Wattley Park is now located. There were not many nearby parks for the neighborhood kids or families to gather at in that area until Wattley Park was installed with not many things like what you would see at parks on the other side of town. I would say it is substandard and past due for upgrading what little equipment that's there. Add a splash pad for the little ones and a tennis court and definitely more lighting and park benches. I love the city and still come there often. This would definitely be a plus for the city of McKinney to take on this project by spending some of the millions allocated for park upgrades in the city. The community pays taxes and deserves a better park. And adding restrooms would be a nice necessary...

The pavilion items could be better and bolted down, the playground equipment is probably past it’s lifetime (the structure itself is actually pretty good for a neighborhood park, may need some of the newer equipment available/expansion), and it could use some more trees, but other than that it’s pretty good. One thing that’s annoying is the trash cans are the kind without lids so the trash blows all over the park and up the street. I actually like that there aren’t any restrooms. It’s a neighborhood park and the houses are really close, so it keeps (most) of the heavy traffic away that is really hazardous because the children that live nearby often walk/bike/skateboard on the road.
