My bestie and I wanted to get out of town but not drive too far. Her daughter sent her this place on her phone saying that she and her girlfriends are going to check it out the next weekend. So we drove to Rockwall and almost passed the driveway, it's not very noticeable from the road. I was surprised to see the small parking lot and only a small building for the restaurant/tasting room, but was happy to see the beautiful grounds on the way to the door. The driveway and building are in fresh good condition, very clean. There is a small vineyard facing the street and that's probably why you can't view the drive from the street, lol. When we entered, we found the place fairly empty for lunchtime on a Sunday. You must place your orders both for the wine tasting as well as food orders at the bar, which I found a bit odd but they seemed short-staffed - but weren't. When the place filled up, the servers came out of nowhere and food delivered with a smile. They reserve a table for when you make your reservation - literally. You'll find a placard on a table with your name on it! There are only about 10 tables in the main room. There's a back room with a few long tables to accommodate large parties. I asked the woman behind the bar if I could change tables because the table they selected was in the path of the servers coming out from behind the bar and the kitchen. She had no problem with that. We sat in a nice spot and eventually two ladies came in with the little pooch in my photo. It was a cute dog, very quiet, but I hadn't realized this small eatery was dog-friendly. I know a larger dog wouldn't have been easy on anyone, as there isn't a lot of walk-space between most tables. I enjoyed chatting with the ladies who had the pup and felt this place was a neighborhood hangout, based on the people coming in during our time there. We both ordered the sausage and biscuits, yum! They came with 2 pieces of bacon, we wished we had known so we could ask for extra, as did the man across from us. It was very good! Not the best gravy I've had but not the worst. We began on our wine tasting while we waited for our food, which was delivered quickly! Since our tasting involved many glasses (we added to the list - hey we're here, might as well try a few), so after a bit, we looked at the menu again. Our charcuterie board was generous with the meats and cheeses. I loved the olives! After we finished and I bought a bottle of the Aglianico for $34, we moved outside to join others taking advantage of the nice day. I think I might make the drive...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem!!!! My husband and I recently moved to Dallas and wanted to visit a local vineyard and used the site North Texas Wine to randomly select. It took us right under an hour to get here from Lower Greenville Dallas and man was it worth it!!!! Both Carol and Greg were so kind and informative on their selection. We both did a wine tasting and I selected : Blanc du Bois (dry) which was one of their award winning selections, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Aglianico and the Ethel (which had tart finish…not used to tart wines but this was actually quite tasty). I also tried a swig of the Red blend and later in the evening ordered a Blueberry Wine-a-Rita…..yummy!!!!!
After our tasting we did decide on getting a bottle of the Red blend……which was absolutely balanced very well yet sweet but not overly sweet alongside with our garlic breadsticks. Afterwards we sat outside on patio under a beautiful pergola with fans and comfy outdoor furniture. Even in the Dallas heat, we were able to relax and take in the scenery of the pond and greenery. While sitting out there (Enjoying that wine-a-Rita) Greg came and engaged with both my husband I for a while just going over family, origin of the vineyard and his hobbies.
I could go on about the hospitality and kindness of the owners but you should come check it out yourself!!!! ABSOLUTELY...
