Great place to visit if you are interested in Minnesota and the history of this part of the Mississippi River. The tour was very informative and we were given information on the history of the fur trade, the people who lived in the buildings, the town of Mendota, and on the restoration and preservation efforts that have been going on at the site. Dakota County manages the tours, but Minnesota Historical Society members get in free as well.

Toured here recently. The MN Historical Society does a most excellent 1 hr. tour here that really explains local early settlement history and the fur trade. Also captures well the relationships with the indigenous settlers and their unique cultures and history. Highly recommend! Well doen MNHS.

See the house, but hit the extensive hiking and biking unpaved trails... Keep going on your bike and you can connect with the river bottoms trail in Bloomington if so inclined.

They have truly kept this historic home, and its grounds in tip top shape. It's a challenge to get to, but one you're there, be sure to explore the State Paek as well

Oldest buildings in Minnesota after the Fort Snelling round tower. The oldest church and the oldest Bridge are nearby too.
