Yosemite Lake — Attraction in Merced

This lake can get loud and dirty and trashy by mid summer mid day forget it. Go to the hills or mountains. But in the off season when its cold. This lake is very under appreciated by the county and most who live in the area. Those who have been here on a quiet fall winter or early spring day know it can be quite serene and tranquil. Fishing can be some of the best in the entire region for trout. On parr with high sierra destinations you would drive hours to get to right in the backyard of Merced. Many find the fishing challenging while others can catch a easy limit. Trick is move around until you find the fish as this reservoir is fed by diversion canals. Definitely potential for a trophy fishery. Maybe one day they will treat this lake with some respect. Just dont show up thinking you'll have the place to yourself once its warm weather. Please pick up your trash. This lake also has a ban on liqour but beer is ok. Dont drink and swim as this lake is notorious to drown victims in areas lulled by swim beaches. Nice quite place. I went there on a Sunday. The majority of the visitors were families.The ground is clean and there is an area dedicated to kids with slides. There are plenty of trees that provide a relief when the sun is too hot. The green is well keept and there are enough parking areas. The only downside is the bathrooms (women). I'm not expecting hotel level of cleanness but a little more effort would be appreciated. My biggest wonder is: who is the genius that "remodeled" the bathrooms?? The small trash can won't allow the doors to close!!...

This lake can be very packed full of people all summer long. But in the off season it is very quiet and peaceful. The fishing is often good here in the weeks after it is stocked with rainbow trout. There is also a decent largemouth bass population as well as crappie and small bluegill. I would avoid this area in middle of summer and fish it in the cooler seasons.
