My son plays baseball each year, and these are the home fields for his league. I've been told by other parents that the entire facility used to be better maintained, and no one is really sure what changed. One would think the city is running and maintaining the facility, but I'm not sure whether it falls under Middle Valley, or Hixson or Soddy Daisy (which already have their own designated fields). Maybe there's a private interest involved. The electronic scoreboards are rarely working, and the raised stands designated for the score-keepers to sit and keep score seem weather-worn and very rickety, making them appear very unsafe. My wife enjoys helping with score-keeping, but she sits in her own chair at ground level behind home plate for fear of the day one of the stands gives way. The first year my son played they had two snack bars, with one of them being right in the center area between fields 1 through 4, but for some reason, this entire building has been removed and it's now a bit of a walk to the main snack bar. The food selection also used to be much better, with BBQ nachos and more hot food selections, but now it's standard plain nachos with cheese from a pump and hot dogs. Lots of candy choices for the kids to rot their teeth on, but that's really part of the charm of going to the baseball fields, especially for a kid. As an adult parent, though, I would spend more money on some better hot food while spending hours at the fields on weekends. The fields are well maintained for the most part, but one of the fields has a really deep fence line and doesn't get used or assigned for games very much because of this fact. Maybe it's used/reserved for teen or adult age leagues, but I've never seen an official game being played on this field, and I've heard many complain that it would be better utilized with some modification for the younger teams who are the majority patronage. Not the worst fields in greater Chattanooga, but far...
Read moreThis is an old school dirt and grass diamond recreation center. It is tucked behind a neighborhood and somewhat hard to find with just a small sign at the turn. It is well laid out with parking close to each set of fields. They do a great job of dragging the diamond and resetting the lines for games and the electronic scoreboards are nice. The concession stand is somewhat limited in its offerings but I find the prices are not too bad. Limited bleachers so bring your own chairs and umbrella for sun protection. The city needs to install some...
Read morethere needs to be addition of other sports and activities. There’s no place to roller skate, you can’t even at the tennis courts, but of course the baseball fields are endless. At the very least, open up the tennis courts for things other than tennis, almost nobody uses them to begin with, especially while it’s not safe to go to the skating rink during the pandemic. Or even better yet, give skaters an area, or do skaters not fit your idea of an athlete...
