St. Georges Trailhead - Mike Castle Trailhead — Attraction in Middletown

This is one of many access points to the Mike Castle trail. It's just south of Summit North Marina on Rt 71 in Bear. It's a great place for biking, walking, bird and other wildlife watching. The trail runs from Chesapeake City Md to Delaware City, DE. Most of it is right along the canal but sections go into the woods (which are where you want to be at noon on hot summer days.)

Along the access road to this entrance is a natural gas line that crosses the canal. Every night at sunset, the cormorants gather on the wires supporting the gas pipe. You can see hundreds of them come in and land each evening throughout the warmer months. I have attached some of the pictures I have taken of them and along the trail to this review.

A little east along the trail is an active railroad bridge. If your lucky, you might see it coming down and a train cross.

Fantastic trail right on the water great for bikes and walking. All paved and very smooth for bikes. Some great views of bridges and you will most likely see some cool boats and ships. Benches about every half mile to sit but most are in the sun. Multiple bathrooms that are clean. Everyone very friendly and place is kept very clean. Mostly in the sun so wear sunblock and avoid on a hot sunny day. A few shade spots every few miles. From parking lot to delaware city is 20 miles round trip. Good ride and I Highly...

Wonderful early morning trike ride along the C&D canal from St Georges bridge to Delaware City and back.
