Our favorite park on the east side of Columbus, we park here to go bike riding on the beautiful creek & canopy tree-lined biking/walking paths. The park itself is very well maintained with a playground adjacent to the parking lot, a decent-sized fishing lake & another playground as you enter the park further. Clean restrooms & there is a covered picnic area as well next to the restrooms. The biking/walking paths are fairly well maintained, but do have some areas where mud accumulates after rains, got to be careful not to wipe out on a bike, especially on the turns (which I've done!) A scenic wooden bridge overlooking the creek is on the path to Academy Park, it is somewhat narrow, but fine for adult single file biking. Great for families walking with little ones. This is a wonderful slice of nature, put the cell phones, earbuds & headphones away, go out & really soak in & enjoy the gift of seeing and hearing the rustling of leaves in the trees, the various calls of the many song birds flying about, the soothing sound of running water in some areas & if you're lucky you will see deer on...
Read moreThis park was a great find. Always looking for new parks and this one came up on Google maps. It has a great play area for the kids with nets, climbing ropes, large tree trunks laid out, play houses and a large buried concrete drain tube for the kids to run in. They also put in a new play area with jungle gym type climbing, but no one ever plays on it cause it is really poorly designed, but it looks cool. Many fields for baseball, soccer, and basketball. It has bathrooms and a covered picnic area. The best part for our family is walking through and along the creek with primitive trails. It has a more defined trail alongside the creek as well and it winds all around the whole park and connects to Academy Park for long walks or runs. There is catch and release fishing there too and we always see folks catching fish. It is tucked in the back of a neighborhood and is a bit hidden if you don’t know it’s there. There is a very large cardinal sculpture that just makes it a cool place to go and see. You can stop in for a quick stop for a picnic lunch or explore for a few hours. ...
Read moreThis park is a hidden gem. I went birding several times this spring but the wild flowers kept distracting me from the birds. It is clean, well maintained, and abundant with wildlife and beautiful woodland habitat. The bluebells were sensational.
It has a paved path used by hikers, walkers, and bicyclists as well as bird watchers. The moist bottomland habitat along Big Walnut Creek has a diverse mix of wildflowers and wetland vegetation such as toad shade, dutchman's breeches, buttercups, and many more.
It's regularly used but I haven't found it to be overcrowded. It also has a nice playground if you have kids as well as a pond where several people...
