I went and hiked this trail on Sunday 10/8/2023. My hike started from the town of Mill Valley, (Old Mill Park), to Mount Tamalpais State Park, to Muir Woods National Monument, and finally down to Stinson Beach. But because I came back the same way & same distance, well… I did what you could call a "Double Dipsea" ... It took us a little less than 9 hours. We took a long break and had ice cream at Stinson Beach. This trail is speculated as one of the oldest race trails in America. So I saw quite a lot of runners as well as friendly hikers on the trail. The trail has a very clear Dipsea marker. The beginning of the trail has nearly 700 stair steps, along with a lot of steep up and down. Some parts of the trail goes through the fire road so there's no shade, so bring a hat, or umbrella. Some of the trail goes through the forest which has old and very majestic trees!! As fyi, I am trying to do this hike once a year. The trail gives me a breathtaking view Pacific Ocean as a reward that makes the annual hike well worth the effort. This is a challenging hike but everyone can do it, where pacing oneself is key. As an enjoyable alternative, think about hiking one way down and then taking the Bus #61 back from Stinson Beach. This trial has a lot of water stations, and I recommend wearing good hiking shoes, bringing snacks, lunch, a hat/umbrella, and lots of sunscreen.
