This is for the overflow parking lot. We made reservations and prebooked our tickets online. We were traveling from San Rafael to SFO and stopped on the way. We arrived at our time and had to wait for a space. We waited and circled for far longer than you would expect for the timed reservation. Then we came upon the smash and grab warning. For the amount of money, the pain in the a$$ website, and the very, very small parking lot, I never should have to take my work computer and purse hiking with me and worry about my stuff in the trunk of my car at a tourist area. I should have an option of placing items in a trunk with someone watching the lot. You turn a lot of people away without reservations. Maybe you should turn criminals away. Another option would be guarded lockers. Again. If you see the lot and where the attendant for fees stands, they should...
Read moreThis is the a review of the parking situation only, and NOT of the woods or the park. Parking reservations are great, and I'm all for it, but they need to be more flexible. I have guests coming from Montana and their flight out last night was cancelled due to forest fire smoke. They're re-booked to arrive tonight at midnight, which will make getting to our Muir Woods parking reservation tomorrow by 10am challenging. So, I called to see if I could change it to the next day. I just looked, and because it's during the week, there are TONS of available arrival windows available every day. But, YOU CANNOT CHANGE A RESERVATION. You can only cancel it, and re-book. And, if you don't cancel within 72 hours, you lose your money. Now, I'm just not sure what will happen to the two entrance fees I...

Communication that we need a reservation to park was bad. A sign at the start of the park said “reservation required” , but how on earth should a tourist know, that this refers to parking (...and not to the usual context like camping, hotels etc.)!! So you drive up there for 20 minutes just to learn that you needed a reservation and you can just get it outside of the park. Really???
The streets are narrow, curvy and steep. We were driving behind a cyclist and did not pass, as we couldn’t see the behind the curves in front of us. A car (looked like a car of the national park) started tailgating and honking at us, trying to pressure us into passing the cyclist. To a national park, in which the employees do not put the safety of their visitors first, we do...
