I got a recommendation for this community center from a friend who has rented one of the rooms in the facility for birthday parties before. She had great experiences before and I was excited to rent the place to host my daughters birthday party.
Initially it was very tough to get a hold of the director Bethany Barnes. After about a week she finally called me back to let me know about prices and I drove there and paid the deposit on the same day. I filled out some paperwork and she ensured me that everything was good to go.
For the weeks leading up to the party, I tried calling/visiting/ emailing about information on how to get the key to unlock the place because she is never there. I figured she was busy and she’ll get back to me soon but a couple weeks have passed with no response. At this point in time it is exactly a week before the party and I still have absolutely no information on how everything is supposed to go. Finally, I wrote a message saying I’ll have to cancel and find another place to have the event if she wasn’t going to reply and little do you know, I get a response back saying everything is good to go and they give the key a day or two before the event.
Then, the friend who recommended the place told me I was supposed to pay the deposit AND the hourly rate in full a month before my event. Panicked, I tried to message/call/ leave voicemails with no response. It wasn’t communicated to me that I had to pay in full, especially because I paid the deposit a month before the event date so if I had to pay in full I don’t understand why she didn’t just tell me then and there? A couple days before the party she finally replied saying I could pay in full the next day. I got the key the next day and I thought that horror show was over
Now, it’s the day of the party. I arrive, doors wide open. The room is absolutely filthy, there were only five tables in the room when I specifically asked for 8 in the center and two food tables. So I had to waste my time THAT I PAID FOR to do her job. I searched the community center for more tables and chairs and tried to clean up as much as possible so that it at least looks decent for the party. I cleaned up after the party, leaving the place looking way better than it did when I arrived.
I was left with the key and no directions on how to lock the place up afterwards. I had to go to the police station and leave the members of the party to go and return the key and ask questions on how I could make sure I’m leaving the community center safely locked. I was told it did that by itself at a certain time, which was relieving but if there was communication beforehand it would have been so much less stressful.
My party was on October 20th, it is now December 10th, and I still haven’t received my deposit back. I sent her a message on November 26 asking where my check was and she said it was sent but never cashed. Obviously, I have never received it. On Saturday I asked her if she got the process going to make another check and cancel the other one, it says it was read, but again no response. I’m not even surprised at this point.
My friend also had a party here a month later and she also had a horrible experience. Same issues, never resolved.
This whole experience has been nothing but a headache, and I have been nothing but kind and understanding. If you’re looking for a place to rent for an event RUN FROM THIS PLACE. Unless you want your money stolen, terrible customer service and dirty...
Read moreGreat place to take the kids to play! The play ground has lots of interesting options. There is a shelter but it is up a small hill behind the playground. You dont have to go in the community center to visit the playground. It is usually locked after business hours. You still have bathroom access though. In the back of the building there is a stage...on each side are bathrooms. There is a swing set up on the hill behind the building as well. There are tables, chairs and benches to sit on, even a covered porch! There is a coke machine but the last time we were there it did not work. It is a non smoking area. Parking is tight right in front of the building but right beside that on the other side of the creek there is extended parking with a bridge over the creek. There is also a basketball court at the end of the extended parking lot! The community center itself has rooms available for rent for parties and such. There is also a huge room with a stage and kitchen. ...
Read moreVery nice facility! Although Millersville is a small neighborhood just North of Nashville and doesn't have a lot of modern amenties, this event center was a pleasant surprise. In fact, I would be hard pressed to find something close to it in Nashville. It has large meeting space, smaller spaces, outdoor amplitheater, basketball courts, kids playground, projectors and A/V sound equipment, stage and kitchenette. It was a great location for our family reunion. The staff is very friendly and easy to...
