This is probably the best park for nature in Greater Boston. It has a great balance of community events/spaces with trails through nature. The hike around the pond is easy and scenic. Despite its proximity to Dorchester et. al., you’ll find that you’re still immersed in nature. Blue Hills altogether is a beautiful place, and Houghton’s Pond is my go-to place. I recommend timing your visits earlier in the day, as you may otherwise have to loop the main parking lot a few times hunting for a spot. There’s another lot off of Blue Hills River Road if you still can’t find parking.

This place is great! Big pond, great to get some steps in while enjoying some beautiful scenery and listening to nature. Early morning walks are great as it’s not too crowded. Weekends can get pretty hectic here during the summertime as lots of people picnic here. It’s a fun atmosphere, but be prepared for the decibel level to get up there with effectively multiple competing barbecues:) There is a huge parking lot that is free. If you are looking to get some nature near Boston this place is great.

Great family cookout place where you can have your family bar b ques, while the kids take a dip in the cool pond in those hot summer days. Safe and friendly and the rangers and lof guards do an amazing job to keep everyone safe. From pulling folks out of the pond when there are passing thunder storms, doing a safety check where they asked all patrons to exit the water safely and return them in orderly. The Rangers help to keep the park clean, and they are often writing tickets to those who see it fit to park in the handicap parking spot without decals. I highly recommend it, the only drawn back is the limited parking. On holidays you could be walking up to a mile or more from parking at the side of the road due to the parking...

I had my first experience walking around houghton’s pond in the blue hills reservation the other day. My friend and I kept remarking on what an undiscovered jewel of a place this is. At one point one of the staff walked up to us and asked if we needed help. We were admiring the the architecture of the rest rooms facility. This young man proudly told us that he was the seasonal manager and how happy he has been in that position for four years. He hopes to work his way up in the program. He enthusiastically told us all about the facility and park area. How important it is to keep the park clean and welcoming to people. He continued on with more accolades and proud comments. He was grand. Wish we knew his name. He brought...

Great area to bring the kids for a short nature walk (about a mile). Beautiful shaded trail. Bathrooms are clean. There is one at bath house next to a small beach and one next to picnic area. The pond water is very clean with lots of small fish. I also see a couple baby cat fish. There is life guard on duty during the day and many families bring kids there or simply getting a sun bath. There is also a playground next to the parking lot. Parking lot fills up quick on weekends so plan to arrive early. Many people reserve picnic area for parties and BBQ during summer months so you will need...
