Houghton's Pond

I was really disappointed with this place when I went today to swim. I’d been here before in the Fall to walk around after a hike, and it was lovely. When I biked over there to swim today, it was not lovely.

There was no bike parking, just one wooden bike rack that was literally falling apart.

There was a lot of litter. To DCR’s credit, park rangers were cleaning it up. But it was still off putting the amount of litter.

The swimming area was too small and very crowded. The lifeguards had roped off a very tiny section of the lake for swimming, which was never more than waist deep. The number of people swimming there was far too much for the small section.

I was really disappointed today, because I think this place could be fantastic. Allow swimming in the entire lake not just a small section, have more trash cans and empty them more often, and build some proper bike racks.
