This is a fairly big Zoo. I was pleasantly surprised...& the new tiger exhibit is pretty awesome... very modern ...lots of space for the two tigers to roam... unfortunately when I was there only one of the two tigers was out and about ...the other one that found the one spot where he can hide from the public ..on the walk-across he was taking a nap you could look up and see his silhouette from below ... also the brown bear exhibit was fun to watch three beautiful brown bears looking very healthy ...one soaking in the water the other two were roaming around... and the white handed Gibbon exhibit was very Lively ...when I arrived one of them was singing a song so to speak and as I was leaving I saw one was playing with his food ...great amount of dexterity with his long fingers.. he was able to open the snap peas just to get to the individual peas inside & discard the rest... and there's much more including a separate Children's Zoo which is fun to walk across the bridge to and see the bald eagle among other...
Read moreRoosevelt park is my favorite park in town. With three playgrounds, a skatepark, public pool, bike and walking paths, a large green space, tennis courts, monuments and statues, friendly wildlife, a tiny train tour, volleyball nets and being connected to the zoo, its easily the best park in Minot. That being said there's often a decent amount of people there so you won't be finding too much privacy. If you're looking for seclusion I'd reccomend one of the more off the beaten paths, smaller parks in town. Roosevelt has many mature trees, plenty of picnic tables and benches, alot of squirrels and birds to watch and some really beautiful plant life. It's pet friendly too! It's a great place to go on long walks, learn a little about North Dakota, have parties and gatherings, look at the river, read a book, do some art, just be outside! There's plenty of shade and PLENTY of things to do and see. Roosevelt park has something...

Military personnel and children get discounts, which is even better. Today there was a really cool train ride, with a man explaining and talking a little about the animals. It seemed exciting. I don't know if it's because I went during the animals' sleeping hours. I found the animals very sad. I felt bad seeing them, even though I like zoos. I know they are well cared for and many were born inside the zoo. But stations like the penguin station are really sad to see. The kids love them, but I think that definitely as an adult, the zoo trip becomes something more dramatic and reflective. the animals are...
