When we are in Houston we return to Freedom Tree every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got married under this incredible historic tree in 2012. It's so calm and there's excellent shade to sit and have a picnic, sketch, read or sunbathe. There's a small pavilion but no playground equipment or other amenities. This is also a Texas Historic Site.

It's been an interesting experience my children and I had with the help of Professor W standing where enslaved African Americans stood as General Granger read the order letting the slaves know that they were free. Thank you Professor W!
