I love this campground! I stay here every time I go to Moab. The rate is $15 a night, which is deposited in a slot at the entrance to the campground. Campgrounds are very spacious, and could easily accommodate 3 tents. I believe every campsite has a fire pit. The parking lot has a capacity of 20+ cars. There is an outhouse, and the campsite itself is about 5 minutes outside town, with McDonald's about 10 minutes away. There aren't any showers, but you can get one for $3 at the Lazy Lizard Hostel, which is about 15 minutes traveling south on Main Street. What makes this campsite amazing is the Indian ladder on the right side of the entrance, which allows climbers to gain access to a 5'x12' stone slab about 50' off the ground. It's an awesome place for a picnic, with views of the Colorado River and the cliffs of Wall Street on the other side. Another cool feature is the rock pool at the end...
Read moreI arrived at Moonflower Canyon around 8:15am and was the only visitor until about 9am. Parking was super easy and it was less than a 10min drive from my downtown hotel. Once on site, I took a peaceful walk thru cottonwoods and a babbling brook before coming to a dead end opening. I climbed up the boulders to a level area for the view. When I was leaving I saw people looking in an opening in the wall near the parking lot. Turns out I almost missed the petroglyphs! There is an option to shimmy into the narrow rock crevice near the drawings for a higher view. My nonexistent rock climbing skills and general love for life did not support this experience however. But if you are so inclined, post the pics for the rest of...
Read moreUnfortunately we have to look past the century of graffiti to see the best part of these petroglyphs. Just like, the Federal, Dept. of Interior, employee told us before we finished our conversation. Once we start to look at the true art and ignore the B.S. we can see history. I just wish people would live and let live with out trying to put their perspective on some thing like these pieces of art. Don't forget about Moonglow Canyon, it is worth the short 1/4 mile or so hike to end of the box canyon. Just think about what it would have been like to live in that canyon back in the "day". It is all about...
