the parking lot patrol here like to ticket people so be sure you pay for parking and make the stub obvious, we almost got a ticket even though we paid. The lot is limited and may fill but you can park out on the road where there is space. The trail is very well marked/worn and is beautiful and peaceful with enough interesting elements to keep kids entertained. The hot springs may not be what people expect, they are basically wood tubs with water piped in from the small spring and a cold water bucket to adjust temp. Last visit the system was very messed up to make filling next to impossible. Be aware that waiting for tubs is only necessary for the private tubs up top. if you want a communal soak head down some steps and there are large vats where it is more about fitting in where you can(a little more fun meeting some new people). We didn't see any nudity but i am sure it happens. Unless the system is repaired so it is easy to empty and refill the tubs, I suggest not putting head under water to avoid any bacteria.
very unique situation to visit. worth the long drive in the...
Read moreThis place is old school Portland awesome. It's been maintained by the park service for years now and done so very well for what little funds they do have. The gals at the camp sites near the trail head work very hard year round here.
The campsites here are awesome and quiet and fairly affordable. GO early before weekend to get a spot.
My advice is to go super early and enjoy a quieter less crowded Bagby. If you go in the day or on a weekend know that there is generally a wait for tubs and just ask, folks are very appreciative of communication up here when everyone just wants the same thing.
The far tub is the best for groups but if it's just you and your boo or close friends enjoy a log tub in the main structure without holding up the lines for a big tub. These take a lot of time to fill, so check with your next in line if they would like you to drain before you leave.
Be respectful and don't overstay your welcome. Enjoy a slice of backwoods Oregon and don't forget to pay for a pass at...
Read moreBagby is just cool if you're into hot springs. It has had a bad reputation over time, but in the last few years it has come back with volunteer staffing and hosts to keep the rowdies under control. The area gets pretty heavy use on weekends especially when the weather is nice so expect to wait in line for a tub. Weekdays and when the weather is a little more challenging, the are no real crowds and waiting is not really much of an issue. The walk to the springs is an improved and maintained trail with a gentle incline most of the way with a small climb right at the end. Even tho the trail is maintained I don't recommend it for anyone that has mobility challenges. But anyone that can walk a couple of miles and climb a hill you are good to go.
Bagby has over time been clothing optional and these days that is supposed to be confined to the bath houses. So if you go, don't be surprised if you see various states of undress, but for the most part, most everyone stays...
