2022 Update: Following the bandwagon of most tracks in the area, Williams Grove Speedway’s track improvements have ceased to exist. They’ve made minor to little safety adjustments to the track over the years even though there have been many incidents, some of which involving death, others involving life altering injuries. It’s really time to step up.
If you’re looking for fan / spectator improvements in the past 10 years forget it. The most they’ve built was some shack of a tiny stage from reused bleacher wood. Some of the original concessions are gone on Beer Hill like ice cream and pizza. The food is now way over priced. There’s little to no seating in concession areas so plan to juggle your families food back to where you are sitting. Bathrooms in the infield are getting pretty gross. The backstretch / beer hill bathrooms are much nicer.
Also, I really think it’s time to stop parking all of the merchandise haulers in the infield. It’s bad enough trying to see the race and having all of the pits in there but now the merchandise haulers during the big shows are blocking even more. Even the Outlaws officials hauler doesn’t need to be in there. It’s time to rethink the infield and if the pits and everything else in there are necessary. It really hinders the fans experience. Specifically so for the families with young children that don’t necessarily have a choice of sitting on the stands.
One positive thing I can say is that the safety crews here mean business and they do a great job. Also the grove has kept their ticket prices down, although still increasing them, they are less than other tracks in the area.
2018: Williams Grove Speedway is historic. Many famous drivers have or even started some story here. The place is iconic in the dirt track racing world but unfortunately doesn't get the hype of the much larger, media focused tracks like Eldora or Knoxville. The staff is friendly, the bathrooms are very nice and clean and overall the facility is fairly well kept. The ticket prices are a little steep but on par with most other local tracks. Track preparation is generally done flawlessly. The food prices are overly expensive for what you get. Come out and support your local dirt tracks and driver's. Dirt track racing is some of the most exciting racing in...
Read moreI’ve been going to The Grove since the 80s with a considerable gap since we’ve been there in the 2000s. To say not much has changed is the best I can do…nostalgia. Besides that, they have a lot of catching up to do to attract the general public and teams. I don’t think the average family is expecting to rough it that much. Seasoned race families have been exposed to track food, fields to park in and walk through and rough roads, not locals looking for something to do on a Friday night. I think they would go once and decide it’s not worth the cost.
We were there to see the second division not the 410s and boy what a boring night for the other divisions. They went out for a combo warm up and heats then hours of waiting until the feature. The track changed drastically while the 410s ran hot laps, time trials, heat races, b main, dash and a feature. By the time the second division got out on the track most of the fans had left (which is typical) but the track and weather was entirely different than the last time they were out. Not a fan for the $40 pit entry.
The biggest disappointment was purchasing a $2 bottled water for my daughter with a heat related heath condition only to be charged another $1.25 for her to get a cup with ice to help her cool down. That’s ridiculous. A grown man stood there overseeing sales like a prison guard while lecturing me about how you have to pay for the cup no matter what’s in it. It wasn’t the money as much as the shock from his lack of compassion for a hot kid when I just bought their overpriced water.
Anyway, I’d rather go to Port Royal or Lincoln anytime. It’s a world...
Read moreAnytime one gets to visit a dirt track is a good time. Plenty of seating, plenty of restrooms. Neat to have the option of watching the race from the infield. Have the loud drunk harmless few under the bleachers but that's to be expected. Only issue but this is at any venue that is "non smoking" all the smoking happens right outside of where it is non smoking so you have to walk thru a cloud of smoke to get to the non smoking area that is also wafted with smoke due to this thing called air. Frustrating when one tends to get migraines from smoke but people have the right to get lung cancer just like they also have the right to give it to others thru 2nd hand smoke just like I have the right not to go...so other than the smoke it definitely would have gotten a 5 star. But I will also say this I am a nobody just like the next person just writing my review of something...don't take my word for any of it..get out there GET OFF THE COUCH OFF YOUR DEVICE and experience it for yourself and write your own...
