📍 Visiting "The Biggest Little Farm" at Apricot Lane Farm 🌱🚜

Our group of four had a fantastic time at Apricot Lane Farm. I’ve seen the documentary three times, as well as the follow-up on Disney+, so I’m a fan. The day was cool, sunny, with bright blue skies and puffy clouds. Perfect, in other words. All the tour guides were friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. They really take you hither and yon and there is one steep, slippery climb, so if you have mobility issues, it could be challenging. There’s a tram to accommodate people who can’t handle the trail. You can jump on and off throughout the tour. I loved being able to dig my hand into the cold-composting worm bin and see all the wrigglers, smell the intoxicating citrus blossoms, see the swirling fruit basket from Alan’s Overlook, marvel at all the different bird species, and learn that Emma’s granddaughter Itty Bitty is expecting her first litter. It was such a delight to be joined at the end by Molly, who was so open and present with us all, answering our questions with such thoughtfulness , humor and grace. And her sweet son read us a poem he had written about the myriad gifts of an apple core. I bought a variety of citrus (the blood oranges are insane) and a huge bag of arugula, and left the farm feeling nothing but gratitude that such a place exists—and that it’s only a 40-minute drive away.

We were able to score tickets to a farm tour while visiting California. It was a wonderful tour, so informative. We saw the worm bed, cattle pastures, chicken pens, the pig Iddie Biddy (a descendant of Emma), and the fruit trees from Alan York's Lookout. We had been wanting to tour for years and were ecstatic that we were able to make it happen. The best part of the tour was when we had a chance to talk with John. He graciously answered all our questions and even posed for a picture with us. We are somewhat farm nerds, so this was an extremely interesting and meaningful tour. Crazily, as we were driving out of the farm, a coyote ran across the road in front of our car. If you have seen the documentary, you know the significance of the sighting. Highly recommend this experience!!

Apricot Farms is just a perfect place that comes to us from a family and family's that genearated families and friends who became farmers and family—They all believed... Apricot Farms is green and windy and perfect and has earth-pangs, birth-postpartum groans beneath it's perfection and that is why I love the place... The farm is a microcosm for how tough life will be for Millenials. They will have ups and downs, round and rounds, and get it right in time. But the fruition that comes from hard work and actual-manifestation through the humility of the seasons is never framed perfect as an American Gothic dream—and yet it is that sweet, mom and dad holding a rake and saying, "It's all good.". The perfect nectarine with universes of life underneath—behold-the golden-egg, where we ALL need to strive as a nation as a people. This-is-what-it-is-all-about! Or it is all just...

It was a pleasure visiting the farmer's market and walking around the garden, both of which are free at this time. The market is like a typical fruit and veggie stand with everything from eggs and seasonal fruits and vegetables to their homemade lemonade (which they provide free tastings of). Along with the market, they have the garden you can walk through for free. There's plenty of nice shaded seating close to the market area, as well as shady areas to sit throughout the garden area. So even if you don't go on the tour, you can enjoy the beauty of the farm, buy some fresh strawberries, and other fruit, and simply enjoy a nutritious snack in a garden setting. I'm blessed to live in SoCal, so the 30-minute drive to this farm was worth the drive, and we stayed for a good hour just taking in the beauty...
