Getting to feed the deer was a really neat experience! It was fun for the kids being able to feed the deer and then trying to spot the ones in the forest and working to get their attention. There is a little gift shop where you pay for admission and food to feed the deer if you'd like. We got carrots and corn.
It was a great experience overall. My only complaint would be about the middle aged woman who seemed to have taken over for the older woman working the register. My 10 year old wanted to purchase something with his own money and as it took a bit for him/us to count the bills and coins (with a hard-to-get-into small coin pouch), she seemed annoyed. After the sale, I said, "thank you", she said nothing back and went to help the next customer. Not customer friendly and I didn't feel like she appreciated our business. Aside from the encounter at the end of our visit, I'd recommend visiting...
Read moreI LOVE deer. I read the book about the old couple that used to own and run this place so I was super excited to be able to experience the love they put into this. I knew they no longer owned it, but I didnt expect that it would look at run down as it did. The deer looked miserable. All of them seemed overfed by guests except for 1 friendly doe. There were swarms of flies biting at the babes. I was mostly disappointed by the fact that one of the white deer had a giant hole in its face and looked sort of bloody. The kids next to me asked me if it got hit by a car and I didnt know what to say. I think there is still room to turn this place around because it felt like more of just the gift shop was the experience. If you love deer and want to let the little one feed a cutie then I still say make this a stop, but if you read the book like I did, dont get...
Read moreStepping into Deer Ranch is like stepping into a peaceful, enchanted forest. It's truly one of the most charming and memorable stops you can make in the U.P. As soon as you get your cups of carrots, the deer come right up to you, and it's incredible to see them so close and to pet them. They're so gentle and clearly used to people. It's not just a petting zoo; it's a genuine experience. We loved seeing the variety of deer, especially the white ones—they're just beautiful. The paths are easy to walk, and it feels like a really safe and clean environment for both the animals and the visitors. The staff is so friendly, and the gift shop is full of unique souvenirs. This is a must-do for families and anyone who loves animals. It’s the perfect, low-key activity that creates wonderful memories. We can't wait to go back and visit our deer...
