I really like this place (like I take my family every year) but they are severely understaffed. I'm not sure if it's attributed to the amount of growth they've had in recent years or just the geographic location but I hope they can adapt to the change. The good: it's authentic, it has many offerings it's exactly what I personally think is a "fall pumpkin patch" in New Mexico. We always have a good time I personally want to spend more time there however that's where the "not so good" comes into play. We definitely need better parking situation it's not the parking but the getting in that is awkward mostly long because the bottleneck situation. (They need 2 entrences or traffic control earlier) The second awkward thing is buying tickets online and having to get in line to buy punch cards and get wristbands. Why? After you get your initial onboarding situation it's purely family fun and chaos. Now we always have fun mostly trying to get the entire family to each personality preferences and abilities, my family is large with 6 kids (2 yrs 5 yrs 9 yrs 11 yrs 36yrs and 40 yrs 😂) we go everywhere we can in the time it takes for everyone to have a meltdown down. By that time we are basically arguing about is it time to leave or can we make it through the pumpkin patch and pick our favorites? can we do lunch? Etc. Typically we eat and that's the main awkward thing I always get peeved about. It's typically hot and dry in high altitude climate, by the time our mid afternoon lunch comes around we want a place to sit comfortably in the shade. Not very many options for shade or comfort. The real food options are getting better much more options than before. A few large options for big family's should be considered as I saw many large family's or multigenerational family's attending today. I also think drink options should be "healthier" I don't mind my sugar treats but sometimes I just want tea, Good ol fashioned brewed tea. Maybe something else that's supposed to be more hydrating and less sugar? (I'm borderline diabetic) My review isn't meant to be very critical but more observational. I really like this place and it's close to being a New Mexico institution like Uncle Cliffs was\is. But keep the authentic feel and take the opportunity to see where families like myself spend $500 plus as a day to use the input for next...
Read moreI really enjoy taking my family to McCalls. Though visiting yesterday 9/21/25 was filled with terrible experience after terrible experience. You pay a sizeable entry fee to get into the park. Then once you're in, a large amount of the activities cost an additional 4-5 dollars per person to play 1 time. The food cost has gone through the roof. I paid 16 dollars plus tax for what was called a "brisket platter." They gave me a dish of scraps that was obviously scraped off the bottom of the try. It was intensely salty and came with only a potato pigtail. The pigtail was half crispy and half soft/soggy. No bread and no additional sides. My wife had a half potato with hers and it was not seasoned, there was no butter, and it was cool to the touch. My kids had brisket sandwiches. The meat was so dry that it was almost inedible. I wanted a turkey leg but once I saw they were almost 20 dollars plus my previous experience with the brisket, there was no way I was going to pay for that. We played the gel blaster activity with my family. My blaster started out okay but then immediately died. They then cycled through another selection of completely dead blasters totaling 4 dead blasters being handed to me. My family was already done shooting their blasters by the time I was able to start. Zero compensation was offered. The pumpkins are being charged 2-4 times what you can get at the local grocery store for the same sized pumpkins. I believe in supporting local but these prices are beyond insane.
Overall, McCalls has become a place that believes a slow dime is more valuable than a fast nickel. With these prices being as high as they are, during a recession when families are already hurting financially, there is no way I will be bringing my family of 4 back here again. Bring down the prices and increase the quality and I will be willing to change my mind. There are other farms in Albuquerque and Corrales that have pumpkin patches and corn mazes at a much more reasonable price. Save your money, I would not suggest anyone go to McCalls this...
Read moreEDIT: In response to the comment below. Again: if my call had been answered with a response informing me I could still be there 2 hours late, I would have proceeded. That comment changes nothing about my review. I am glad you stayed open for those that did go 2 hours late-with route 66 it was still the same time delay. Once again, this has happened before and was handled differently: turned away & no refund. I did not want to operate on blind faith that something would have changed this time. Despite trying to get clarification by calling-I received no communication. Thanks but it seems you missed the point of my comment.
There was a closure on i40 and a delay of two hours, I was on the way already to my schedule farm visit. I called many times to try to get an answer on whether or not I could be accommodated 2hours past the entry time, as I thought it would be difficult for them to accommodate all people past 2 hours. The year prior I had been delayed as well and arrived barely past my entry time, I was turned away with no refund and made to drive back. Due to this past experience I figured (after no response from McCalls) that I may as well turn back rather than spend 4 hours total in traffic with no refund once more.
I reached out over email and explained the circumstance and asked if there was any possible solution-(this morning) I was told that there would be no refunds as people still showed up (and had I known this, I would have definitely proceeded).
A very disappointing response considering there was a major lack of communication and unknown expectations for these kinds of circumstances. At this point I think I will not be visiting as it’s been two times of unsatisfactory customer service. I’m sure it would have been excellent however after losing $170 I think I will find other locations that...
