So many great things about this trail that is very well maintained. Great for walking, seeing wildlife such as deer, chipmonks, various birds from cardinals, bald eagles, (indigo buntings usually in may) many others.

14 miles of bike trails that are split into various towns. Magnificent segment from Mount Vernon to Gambier that follows the Kokosing River in forest like scenery. Where it's not uncommon to see whitetail deer.

Heading into Gambier is quite a scene as you run into an old train and station look alike where restrooms are located. People of all ages enjoy climbing on train getting pictures taken.

Going from Gambier to Howard can be quite fun as generally half mi or so out of Gambler less people are seen where you can drop the hammer a bit. Pulling into Howard is always a delight as you see old train station that is now a locals house. Great photo opportunity.

Leaving Howard going into Danville is quite nice as you pass a few stream areas where wildlife can be seen. Deers coming to stream to drink even Bald Eagles can be spotted from time to time perching in tress or flying over head.

No matter the time of year you get the chance to come enjoy. You will find a great day filled with trails food and lodging. 5 star trail very...

I’ve been visiting the Kokosing Gap Trail for nearly three decades now, and it’s still one of the best trails in Ohio. It’s a 14-mile paved path that runs between Mount Vernon and Danville, built on an old railroad line. The scenery is incredible—wooded areas, farmland, river crossings, and a couple of long trestle bridges that are especially beautiful in the fall.

There’s a little bit of everything here: restored train cars in Gambier, an old stone tunnel near Howard, and plenty of spots to stop and take it all in. The trail is flat and easy to walk or bike, with benches and restrooms spaced out well. I’ve always found it to be clean and well-kept, thanks to the local volunteers who do a great job maintaining it.

It’s a peaceful, nostalgic place that never gets old, and every visit feels like a step back into simpler times, as my earliest walks were with my Grandma and Uncle, who are no longer on earth. If you're in the area, it’s well worth the walk or ride. Highly...

I love this trail, great huge bridges, great country ride, very Quiet, all paved, clean, air is fresh. I rode this trail way back in 1996, great wild flowers in early spring, early summer. Lots of tree covered riding, some grades, not bad. TAKE LOTS OF WATER WHEN YOU RIDE. AND ENJOY NATURE.!!

June 15 2022 Drove out to Mt Vernon, To ride on the Kakosing trail. Saw the BIG storm that went through . i rode The the trail for 5 miles. Trees down all over trail. Had to carry my bike over top, fallen tree. After 8 trees jumping over? I got exhausted. Took a good break, turned around, back to. My truck, what a waisted day. I mean some of these trees where BIG. Hope the ranger s get it cleaned up. Soon. This is one of my...

Awesome bike trail. Whether you are a novice, recreational, or avid bike cyclist this is the trail for you. Level for the most part. I would recommend packing water and snacks if you plan on a long bike ride. There are benches along the way to rest. Potty rests are at least 4-5 miles apart depending on what part you are on. We did the Mt. Vernon to Howard OH stretch and this is level and you cross some old trestle bridges. A very rewarding ride with views of the countryside and wildlife. We saw a deer drinking from the river! Please be courteous and pack out what you pack in. Let us all take care of keeping the trail clean for others to enjoy. Happy Biking!

I can only speak to about 10 miles of the trail but it is seriously one of the best I’ve been on for biking and walking. There’s a lot of wildlife too. During my quick ride today I saw a deer and two groundhogs. A lot of the trail is surrounded by trees which provides nice shade / scenery. I love that there are benches throughout and I love the bridges! I have tried to rollerblade here before and while it was okay it can be tricky due to the sticks and debris from the trees etc.

This is a great trail to walk or ride your bike. I travel all the way from Columbus because this is my favorite trail to ride my bike 25-40 miles. There is a tree canopy for most of the trail so you don’t have to worry much about getting too hot or getting too much sun. The initial ride is along the River on one side and a big wooded hill on the other. The trail doesn’t have many big hills to ride over, it’s pretty level.
