The trail is easy and kid-friendly. The trail is well-maintained but unfortunately there's a lot of erosion around the river and falls from people going off-trail. The falls can be hard to see at different times of year, especially when the trail is busy, but viewing areas are there for a reason! It's dangerous for you and for the land to go off-trail.
First time visitors should know that the road in can be rough, especially when approaching from the east when most phone maps will suggest taking a two-track dirt road through the woods. There is limited parking at the trailhead and at busy times you could have a very long walk from your car to the trailhead. It was beautiful and fun to get there and once you’re there, they have a nice bench across the stream (otherside of the falls) where you can sit and listen and take it all in. Know the hike is much longer after the falls and much more difficult. Even though I’m kind of a noob hiker I am in pretty good shape...however I brought a 30lb backpack which killed me. The right trail is slightly longer and more difficult, but takes you to Chapel Falls. It's worth it, but do it in the way down white you have every.
