I'm a casual disc golf player and love this course. It's a nice and spread out 18 holes. The locals don't have much respect for disc golf however, and you have to watch out for family photo sessions, trail runners, dog walkers, remote control truck enthusiasts, picnics, sunbathers, etc but such is the dilemma of disc golf players everywhere.
The back country trail is great which makes it even more puzzling why somebody would trail run on the disc golf course. One of my favorite memories is sitting on the bluff where the trail runs along the river and watching an otter hunt for crawfish. The back country trail connects to a paved trail that would be great for casual walkers.
We saw the band Grizzly Goats play on a trailer turned stage by one of the shelters. It was a really good setup but perhaps unrefined. I think the park would be a great spot to have more outdoor concerts, but the park officials don't appear to want them to become too popular.
The baseball fields look nice and always have big crowds, but I don't have much experience with them.
The shelters are great if shelter parties are your thing with convenient parking and garbage cans.
Overall, this is a great park, and I can't wait for the Greenway to connect it to the rest of...
Read moreI love this park, there is plenty to do there, hiking the backwoods, or walking the paved trail, as well as, ball fields, frisbee golf, Wilderness Center with snacks, drinks, or activities held daily. A good place to go and relieve stress by walking the backwoods. I have personally seen many wild animals in the woods, including; a large coyote (at dawn), even larger deer (several), a huge owl in the trees, and hawks, as well as, a variety of snakes,) that normally slither away from me. The river is beautiful, if you get to see it a few days after a good rain. A large area is set aside for people to pitch a tent, or several tents, with a designated campfire (when authorized). The city of Murfreesboro does a good job of maintaining the park as well as providing Police services which are mainly patrol and crime prevention. A walking track goes around the several ball fields, and they even have a tetherball post, a volleyball area, as well as childrens play grounds and barbecue pit areas to accommodate a few, or several hundred people. Can you tell that I love this park? It's one of my favorite places to go in the area, and a great place to take family, and friends, or to meet new ones. Go there, you won't be...
Read moreGreat back country hiking trail to get out in the woods for a few hours. No momentous view of anything to cap off a hike or anything like that, but a great trail nonetheless. Lots of great rock formations, karst topography formations, interesting trees, and just enough up and down to make you feel like you went for a real hike despite the short distances.
Also, Barfield has a fantastic disc golf course that I've played on numerous times. Half of it is out in the open and half of it winds through some serious up and down rocky woods making it quite challenging. If you are looking for a quick course to play or with kids, do the open holes. You can do the first four or five then skip over and do 2 or 3 more and then finish off with the 18th hole and you end up with 7-9 holes out in the open without having to get...
