Worth the try, good products and stellar customer service. I've been a Farm Box / Large Sampler Box subscriber for nearly a year. In that time frame, I've only had one order goof up (contents of the box didn't match the itemized invoice), -which, the amazing customer service rep, Natalie, offered a refund or credit for next month's box. Another time, I had moved and, while still living out of boxes, realized I needed to pause my subscription because I was eating out way too frequently and I was behind on my meat consumption. I know you can update your preferences in their online portal but I just reached out to Natalie and again she took care of it. -Same with a time I was going to be out of town around box shipping time, just reached out to Natalie and she took care of it, so the customer service is a big part of why I'm awarding 5 stars.
Now the products themselves, and keep in mind, this is from a box subscription perspective as there is a nice discount when ordering with this method. The chicken, fish, lamb, and pork are delicious! I am particularly partial to the line caught fish (I am now famous at my church for a Sea Bass Cioppino I brought to a potluck). The ground beef is also delicious. Had it not been for Natalie's great customer service, what would have lowered this review would have been the other cuts of beef. Nothing has been bad and I think really it's a bit more of a "me issue" but for my taste buds, I just prefer grass fed, grain finished steaks over grass fed, grass finished. Cost-wise, last time I did the calculation, it was about the same as shopping similar items at Gelson's/Wholefoods/Sprouts so its more of a time saver with a bit of adventure... "oh, beef shank aka osso buco, hmmm let me look up some recipes". -And, I do like that I'm supporting local/small farmers.
Thanks Natalie for all your help, and keep up the good work...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been researching meat alternatives, and once I realized the ingredients and amount of processing involved, I settled that there must be a way to be nice to my body, the environment, and small business, without having to go meat-free.
After a look at the CA farms listed as growing sustainable, free-pasture meat, I found Primal Pastures. I chose them because the proximity to my home, but boy was I impressed when I started to research the brand. I truly get an honest, transparent and good all around feeling reading their faqs and blogs.
Today, after unboxing my first order, I decided I had to try the burger patties. Everything was still frozen and there were a few pieces of the dry ice still in the mini cooler packaging.
Pre-formed and covered on both ends with butcher paper, they were easy to separate after a short defrost. Great fat-meat ratio, so the patties didn't shrink very much, and they were very evenly thick.
The real difference came when I got to eat. I went plain, salt & pepper with American cheese, and a leaf of lettuce, to get the flavor: BOY IS THIS GOOD MEAT! I could taste the iron, but not to say it tasted metallic, but the sign of oxygen rich muscle, which sweetly combined with the fatty seer, it was everything a burger 'ought to taste like.
I felt so good after eating this burger, not only because it was an easy process, tasted great, and was easy to cook, but my conscience felt lighter knowing that that cow was as close to the wild existence it should have, as it could get.
Chicken breast is tomorrow, I'm sure I will feel just as pleased and gratified as I did with the patties. Thank You...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am honestly so so disappointed and upset really at my package that Iāve been anxiously waiting on. Packaging , because it is a perishable Item, they insulated it and man , Iād say the only thing that was 10/10. However , the actual product , I mean I feel almost taken advantage of. I ordered a holiday ham so their half bone in ham , website says 4-5 lbs I was expecting a descent size ham for a whopping $55 dollars and not to mention the $20+ in shipping costs that is not covered in the price . For literally what will feed probably my husband and my 5 year old old. And my husband is not a large guy either. So very disappointed . Iāve been following them for so long and have been wanting to give them a try with all the positive reviews they get from all these Instagram influencers etc.I understand that quality isnāt cheap and they have a business to run but this , this just is upsetting and it feels like Iāve been cheated. The size , definitely not worth the price. Iām okay paying the price when itās fair and this absolutely wasnāt. Now I have to go find another place I can order a holiday ham from and now spend double the price for basically nothing. And refunds , not even an option. I feel companies that are proud and sure of their products donāt have anything to fear because they know their products are so good they wonāt even get returned so they offer a real refund policy , and Primal pastures with how proud you seem to be on social media of your products , Iām shocked to...
