This is a spectacular place. We walked the grounds prior to the guided indoor tour. The reason for 4, not 5 stars, is because during the audio tour in the slave cabin we were hearing how the owners of the home put on a special wedding for 2 of their slaves, whom they adored. We were then told during the guided tour how the mistress of the house may have feared her slaves while bathing. This seems to be contradictory to the recorded tour. Obviously an agenda of the Department of the Interior. The park rangers are super informative and bring the home to life—as you listen to their stories you can picture the families roaming about the house and what daily life was like. The grounds are impressive and you can see all the outbuildings, garden and orchards for no fee. The fee to get in the house is reasonable at just 10 dollars for about a 1 hour tour. Read moreWhile seeing the insides of these antebellum homes is very nice, we love doing these tours normally - but the fact that I can't take pictures is just silly and antiquated. And at $20 per adult.. do they really think ppl will buy a a book to get pictures... the answer is no. I took one Rouge photo and we didn't go see any others homes... sad.
Allow photos (without flash) and nothing is harmed unless you are just after the almighty dollar.
