Arriving at Linden, a historic 6th generation residence dating back to 1790, nestled on seven pristine acres of tranquil land where birds harmoniously sing, I was greeted by the enchanting charm of this Southern antebellum home!
The sight of Spanish moss and the large oak trees took my breath away. I rushed out of my car to quickly snap photos of the beautiful grounds, the European-like gardens, and the grand exterior of the house.
Linden's fame is well-deserved, as I discovered during my pre-trip research. The main front door was the model used to create the entrance of Scarlett's Tara from "Gone with the Wind", and the house featured a 98-foot gallery and an impressive collection of Federal-style furniture.
Over time, the home's original 150-acre property has been reduced to the current 7-acre lot. The residence is comprised of three distinct wings: the main section, constructed by 1790, along with the subsequent additions of the east and west wings added by its various owners over time.
The front and back porches of the house are beautifully designed and are perfect spots to forget about time. After exploring the town that evening and having had dinner, I returned to Linden around 9pm to find my hosts, David and Marjorie chatting with guests on the back porch. Linden’s back porch acts as a bridge between the home and its guests, having brought us together in a seamless blend as if we were meant to be, destined to get to know each other. Though tired after a full day of driving and activities, I couldn’t resist sitting for a while and joined in on the pleasant conversation that lasted until midnight!
My room, called 'Feltus', is located on the main floor of the west wing and offers a cozy and charming atmosphere. It’s grand stature with its beautiful hardwood floors, four poster bed, fireplace and bath exude hygge comfort and charm. The elegant four-poser bed is positioned in the center of the room, allowing a view of the garden or the surrounding porch through windows on all sides.
I often judge a B&B by its bed linens and bathroom towels. The bed pillows were plump, perfect to sink into and the bed ever so comfortable. Its linens were cool to the touch and had the presence of being handpicked just for this room. The towels! I must ask Marjorie where she purchased them so I can add them into my own bath! A score of 10 out of 10! Waking up in Feltus was heavenly. The early morning dawn began to fill my room ever so slowly with birds gently but happily talking amongst themselves.
Breakfast served at Linden did not disappoint. The doors to the original grand dining room remain locked until 8:30 a.m., and once inside, Bertha warmly welcomed us and guided us to a table fit for royalty. The attention to detail was impeccable, with top-notch linens, cutlery, and dishes that could rival those of Michelin-starred restaurants. It was a nice opportunity to socialize with fellow guests and enjoy unique touches of history like the punkah, a primitive ceiling fan that would sway back and forth across the table as servants took turns pulling the ropes on each side. This fan not only kept families cool but also help to reduce pesky insects away from the food. Originating from the West Indies, the term "punkah" is derived from the Hindi word "pańkhā," meaning "fan."
Our breakfast included waffles, a fruit medley of strawberries and blueberries 🫐 and a dollop of homemade whipping cream. A side of savory bacon garnished our plates served with orange juice and water. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. A stay at Linden should be on everyone’s...

Please join me in complaining to the mayor and board of alderman about this property owner's entitlement.
I live directly behind Linden and have endured, during numerous events, loud music being played less than 100 feet from my front door for more than 4 years. The music goes on into the night well beyond an acceptable time. I have tried sleeping with ear plugs, a fan and noise machine and nothing helps with that vibrating noise that emits from the ground. Also, I am not comfortable having guests or my grandchildren over on the event nights, because they would not be able to sleep until the music stops.
I have requested to the mayor that all noise stops at a more acceptable time, 10:00 pm, but have not had a response yet.
NOW they are having the CITY PUT A BLOCKADE RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE to stop traffic from driving by during their event. Yes, THE CITY DELIVERED THE BLOCKADE. Is it acceptable for the city to become involved with this. Are the owner's compensating the city for this service?
Since this is a commercial establishment and the street is a public street, should they be allowed to treat their neighbors without any respect? (Can I allowed to play loud rap music during the ceremony?)
Also, as an FYI, the owner's Marjorie and David Feltus tried to SNEAK and get me to sign a "RIGHT OF FIRST REFUSAL", if I ever want to sell my property. SNEAK is the correct word. Thank goodness I closely read the legal document that was presented to me. There was never any discussion of this and I was and still am absolutely horrified that they would stoop so low.
Neighbors, Please get in contact with me if you would like to sign a petition and go before the Board of Alderman to contain these self-serving people.
Thank...
Read moreI’ve been thinking for several days about what I could write that would do justice to Linden. Quite simply, I think it’s one of the nicest, most comfortable places I’ve ever stayed. ||As we were there in February, definitely low season, we had the opportunity to get to know two fabulous people at the house, Jennifer, the property manager, and Miss Bertha, who made delicious breakfasts for us every morning. (My husband, who is a Jersey boy, has never been a big fan of grits, but he said if I made them like Miss Bertha does, he’d eat them every day!). Both of these lovely women patiently answered questions we had about Natchez, and it was just delightful talking with them. One of the great things about traveling is meeting people and learning about who they are and how they live, and talking with these ladies was like being with old friends. They are absolute gems!||Jennifer helped with sightseeing recommendations and just generally made sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was chilly for most of our stay, but we were cozy and warm. Being a porch person, I was determined to spend time on the gallery despite the chill, and having the coffee bar right there kept us warm with hot tea and coffee. I’m very sensitive to the environment, and the living space made me feel really good.||Our room, the Feltus room, was beautifully appointed and my soul felt so at ease there. The room was flooded with light with the shades up and felt so inviting. The bed was so comfortable, too. I don’t think I’ve ever slept on such luxurious sheets.||The Linden website says “Come as guests, leave as family,” and that’s exactly the way I feel about the place. I made 2 new friends in a wonderful place in Mississippi, and I sure am sorry that I...
