Been coming here through out my life. Sure has changed, when I was a kid there used to be rafts made out of skinny logs bound together just floating around on the shore. Then I remember tons of ppl used to congregate on the Sandy dunes that are now the nature preserve to go dirt biking. I mean hundreds of people. Now, we have the pier 32 grill and the boat slips. My National City is a diamond in the rough and all the low income people who own property here own million dollar lots with the best weather in the world. I'd rather own property here than in Malibu. It's cold over there! San Diego has way warmer weather. Eat your heart out everyone else, we got here first. National City is Mexicans on the bay directly across the bay from silver strand. N.C. you wish it was yours but it's ours! And priceless and you knew it...
Read moreAlways relaxing. Breezy. Nice to see everyone out enjoying the park. It's perfect to get away for lunch from work. Take your lunch, dinner. I'm not sure about BBQ rules they change. Plenty of space, shade, picnic tables, free parking. Restaurants nearby. There is also a bike ride trail that leads straight to or from the marina to Plaza Bonita. The WATERFRONT GRILL has plenty of outdoor tables for adults and family. Drinks and great food. Not sure about reservations. I saw plenty of walking. Note park to your right upon entry to restaurant is best.. Also jet sky rentals right close by the restaurant to your right in the same parking lot of the marina. Priceless relaxation. Enjoy! I miss the live music of Goodies. Sadly closed due to covid. I drove by saw a new name Marina...
Read moreDANGEROUS CONSTRUCTION SITE. There is absolutely no signage on the wide open gate into the construction site that appears as a way to walk through the park until you get inside and get yelled at by construction workers. There was literally a massive Front Loader Tractor driving through the parking lot of the park while the operator was completely checked out into his phone and almost ran me over (With a flagger nonetheless) The port of SD needs to get a grip on their contractor and ensure that De La Fuentes Construction Inc. maintains a safe job site that does not endager the patrons of this park. I would avoid it until the construction is completed. Otherwise it's one of my favorite places to go for a quick walk by the water close...
