Todays date is Thursday December 30th, 2021. Note: today is not a holiday. After checking their website stating the Iron museum was open until 4:30 pm today and calling the phone number was a recording stating they are open until 4:30 pm today, me and my family drove 45 minutes to visit the museum, we arrived at 1 pm and the front door was locked and the museum was closed. We waited around another 15 minutes in case the person running the museum needed to run a quick errand or something like that, but no one ever showed up. Even though both their website and phone stated they were open until 4:30 pm today, it was a big lie, they were not and the museum was closed at 1 pm, and probably not even open at all today, How completely rude and incredibly inconsiderate! I hope whoever owns the museum looks into this as the person who was supposed to be running the museum today was screwing off somewhere today and/or so rude and inconsiderate not to show on their website or phone recording they were closed today. I mean really how do you expect any support for your museum when it is...

This museum is a bit hidden, but it's a great stop. There's a sign on the main highway and a short jaunt down a paved drive will get you here. It's free admission with a recommended $5 donation in a box by the door. This is a well kept museum with a nice selection of the tools used in the mining of the area.

Aimed more toward the school crowd, there are a good number of educational placards around discussing the history and use of the trade in a simple terms. There are a few stations to experiment (compasses and magnets and such). There are quite a few spots talking about the lives of the people that worked the mines, not just the mines themselves, and I thought that was a nice touch.

There's a nice gift shop and some nature walking paths around the building itself. If you're on a family trip (or just have an interest in the local history) it's a fun, short stop. Well worth the suggested donation if...

The Michigan Iron Industry Museum is a must visit. It is a very well put together location with education for all ages. We have been here several times. When we have someone visiting from another state we bring them here to learn some about this area and we always learn something new that we didn’t know. The staff is always so friendly. The walking paths are also very well maintained. The parking is plentiful. The gift shop is a great place to pick up a little something. We recommend stopping by. We will stop here again and again. Also, if you’re able, please leave a donation when you enter...

Pretty neat place. We didn't have enough time to see and read everything, plus my kids aren't really into reading displays. It seemed like a nice place to stop AND it's free! There is a donation bin near the door and there's a video you can watch that cost $1 per person. There's stuff inside and some walks outside you can do. They also have a little gift shop.
