As of August 25, 2023 Kyle Canyon Picnic Area/Campground along with many other public areas on the Kyle Canyon side of Mount Charleston are closed due to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hillary causing major flood damage which caused many safety issues that need to be corrected. To keep up on when these areas will reopen check out the official U.S. Forest Service public information channels.

Good snow hiking and sledding in the area. Some sloped areas were icy and slippery so be prepared. We had slip-on ice cleats strapped to our boots. There were a few inches of fresh new powder snow on the ground, on the morning of Dec. 29,2021. Limited parking and you cannot park on the road ( highway) but luckily, after 5 minutes wait, we got a parking spot at a small parking area.

There's a bbq grille, fire pit and a nice picnic table. Good bathrooms with running water, flushable toilets. The caretaker is a nice guy. Saw deer there while walking thru the picnic site after we came back from the hiking trail and further up the road. The only drawback is I wished it was open later than 6pm so we could have the campfire going in the fire pit after dark.

Nice enough campground. A bit close to the highway so during high traffic times there's a bit more highway noise than is preferable. But it's a nice, easy reprieve from the Vegas heat. Apparently people often go up just to picnic, which seems like a fairly decent idea just to get some cool mountain air without the expense and time investment of camping.

The amenities are nice, the bathrooms are well tended by the staff. They do a good job of keeping it presentable, especially if you know anything about how the public treats the world around them when they don't have to be accountable for their actions.

Last year there was a water faucet you could access, but it seems this has been removed. Not sure if there's one at the attendants site or not. But, certainly, bring enough water for your consuming and cleaning needs. (There are functional sinks in the bathrooms, so you can wash your hands...

Where do I start, First, the camp host, an older woodsy fellow is extremely rude and sarcastic, and will often be seen partying with visiting teenagers. Second, the camp sites are so close together with little or no vegetation there is no privacy. The web site mentions the camp site parrallels the main road, which is a complete understatement, the camps are less than 10 yards from the street, people driving on the main road have complete visual of your entire camp site. No privacy what-so-ever. Third the site seems to cater to groups of children or partying twenty years olds, which during my experience partied till 4am, and then began the day with car alarms going off for 5 min or more. Honestly if you were to just park your car on the side of the road and pitch a tent you would have more privacy than if you stay in Kyle Canyon......At least just passing traffic...

First time coming out here so we called ahead. We were told to show around 2pm for first come first served sites. Came in, to tent camp with the family for the weekend, and all sites but one was filled up. Camp host explained that you can arrive earlier to claim a site as soon as the previous tenants leave. Only site available did not have a flat/level spot for our tent. The sites we observed when driving around appeared to be picnic spots that now allow camping. I'm sure it is good if you are RV or van camping, but we decided to go back home and will check out another spot or make reservations at the Hilltop or Fletcher campground. Thanks...
