Very beautiful park, great sledding in the winter, great for walks, great variety in the scenery. The greenhouse/canopy/mansion area is just beautiful, very well maintained, the variety in the flora is beautiful. I usually go here with my family, either in the winter for sledding, or just to walk around with the dogs and get some fresh air with some good views. There are a few areas which are nothing but huge grassy fields and open space, which is great for going off leash if you’ve trained your dogs to not run off, playing sports, or even picnics. I love just walking around and taking in nature here, the aesthetics are really amazing, especially for photography! There’s a nice lake/river right at the bottom of the hill, behind the mansion, that just stunning on nice sunny/partially cloudy days.

One of the founders of Texaco, Lewis Lapham commissioned this stately Elizabethan-style mansion, known as “The Castle” in 1912. Waveny House is in 300 acres of flowing grounds laid out by Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr., and would stay in the family until 1967 when it was sold to New Canaan to become this distinguished park. As well as being a grand place to take a wander, Waveny Park has its fair share of amenities, including an Olympic-size open air-pool and paddle tennis courts. It’s also prominent in New Canaan’s events calendar, staging weekly concerts on Wednesdays in summer, as well as the Fourth of July fireworks, plays at the Powerhouse and an annual Easter egg hunt. The house needs a mention for its mullioned windows and turreted chimney stacks, and was designed by William Tubby.

This is an interesting place. We don't normally go out to places that have beautiful buildings, as we really prefer the woods, but this was an interesting place. The buildings were both modern and old fashion at the same time. This seems like a place that could transport you back in time to the Victorian Era. Being there in the winter time I think is not the best time. The grounds are a little windy and cold but there are some interesting trails. This could use some more in depth searching! Ok so it is time for our traveling scavenger hunt. See if you can find the places in the picture identified with Scavenger Hunt and leave us a comment.

Beautiful main building, lush green fields ,parks etc.Little kids love to run after the frogs and tortoises in a small pond. One small covered garden adding to the beauty and is a heaven for a photo session for newly weds. Very peaceful place and one will love to sit in the shadow of a big tree for hours. One can read or write a book in such natural surroundings. I enjoyed my evening time with my grand children.
