It is beautiful. The water is really clean. If you scuba dive or snorkel in it, visibility is very good. The fish are friendly. They may nibble at you a little bit. There is a somewhat small but clean sand beach. There are also a lot of picnic tables, stoves for cooking with charcoal, trees, grass, and shady areas. It is a very family-oriented place. Little ones must be watched closely as the water deepens quickly. Life guards are on duty during the day in season. They are strict and prohibit some water activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling at the beach swimming area during regular hours. Diving from the high rocks around the perimeter of the lake is forbidden at all times. People have been killed doing that. However, swimming is delightful. The water gets pleasantly warm in summer heat. Adults and little ones alike really enjoy the water. If you watch closely, you will see friendly little chipmunks. At the end of the day, turkey vultures usually come out to have a tasty dinner of crumbs and other food droppings left behind. They really help keep the park clean. It's imperative that you make good use of a highly effective sunscreen and repeat applications frequently. You should also bring insect repellant since you may need it at the end of the day when horse flies may appear. There are modern private bathroom and shower facilities available from morning until closing and there is also a refreshment stand with soda, snacks and light...
Read moreThis state park is ok. Our party was not a fan of this swimming lake to come back. Out of state vehicle $22 When the park reaches its max capacity, no one is allowed to enter. Cons: Restrooms are not clean Floaters are not allowed not even for small children. Children have to wear a vest or lifejacket, other devices are not permitted in the water. You are not allowed to play ball in the water. You are not allowed to open a portable changer since the restrooms were disgusting and we didn't want to change in there. They don't have a phone number, so you can find phone numbers on the maps app or CT state park website but no one will answer that phone. The bathroom is far from the front picnic areas. You have to carry your garbage out where the dumpsters are (dumpsters are notbfar from the picnic area depending where you at) (state park employees pick up the garbage in bags in other state parks) Pros: The water is clear, you can even see little harmless fishes swimming. There are lifeguards on the site. They don't allow loud music which is nice to respect everyone's space and choice of music. The water is not deep, so kids are safe to swim. The swimming area has a nice size, it is not small ( I've seen smaller ones) and it's not big (I've seen bigger ones) , it is OK.
Overall: Our party didnt like all these restrictions that made no sense. Three stars because the swimming area is beautiful. Look at...

The first girl at the first entrance was super cold saying “ no reservations no park” and I was asking if I can reserve online for the same day and she said again “ no reservation no park, move your car , have a great day” and she gave me a back, I drove straight and the second gate, the guy was super sweet and friendly and he said “did she not explain to you?” And he gave me the paper with the informations , he listened me and he said sorry for that ( this is what made me more comfortable), but I was frustrated bc I suppose to pay parks and recreation fee when I register my car and mostly of the people were out of the state...
