I love this park i only know John and Michelle from their hard working clean up crew but I love them they keep the park so nice! People are so rude and leave trash everywhere and there are trash cans and dumpsters everywhere with such easy access...smh we were there during that last storm it came from no where I got hit in the head by a fallen tree my glasses flew off my face and down the beach my husband was hugging me from behind to protect my recent major back surgery he got cuts and bruises it was so scary the trees were falling and it only lasted for like 5 minutes but seemed like forever the debris was devastating...we go to this park pretty much daily...the crew as usual was working hard the next morning they got so many broken trees cleaned up and within a few days the beach was back to beautiful. They rake the beach all the time ๐ they have a ton of free events there is a nice dog park, nice trails, disc golf that looks like a ton of fun there is a playground a butterfly trail and the tudor house...we love fishing here and as I heal I love waking amap there are awesome raptures, deer and cool wildlife...there are pretty flowers pretty butterflies lots of grills and picnic tables a volleyball court on the beach 2. The grass is always well kept and it feels safe it is my favorite place to go to...it is awesome to be in such a beautiful place...if you visit please don't litter or be rude to others have respect for the guys fishing and swim where they provide swimming to the left of the docks! Enjoy yourself and let nature surrounding you bring you peace!

There is still so much more for me to explore here to give a thorough review. However, I must say the following for now. The path for walking are amazing. You have a full view or the lake and still can get sun.. then there are some areas for shade. I went and bank fished the entire pathway. Bank fishing is not great from this lake by the paths. It may be better on the other side.. however I seen soon many people.in kayaks.. very popular for this area. They have a ramp for electric motor boats and kayaks. I seen few boats compared to kayaks. There is supposedly a great selection of fish, as the lakes connect with others and I hear came down from lake Erie. So sights are great, and scenery is amazing. Fishing I hear is great. Buy I have not experienced that from the banks by the docks. More time and I will add to my article and follow up. But highly recommended for walking and hiking.

Portage Lakes State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike. The beach here, with its soft sand and clear waters, is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and relaxation. The real gem, though, is the variety of boat rides available, from kayaking to paddleboarding. Exploring the interconnected lakes amidst serene surroundings is a must-do activity. For a more laid-back experience, the park's picnic areas provide a picturesque setting for outdoor meals. Well-maintained with tables and grills, they're great for gatherings of all sizes. In summary, Portage Lakes State Park offers a diverse range of activities, from beachside fun to water adventures and peaceful picnics. It's an ideal destination to enjoy nature and quality time with loved ones.

Big area with a big lake. Very nice place and gorgeous for sun sets. A MUST for when they have fireworks. They also have a playground. The fireworks last about a half hour at least and they have tons, its amazing. They have an icecream truck when there are fireworks and about 10 porta potties. Big parking lots-but of course come early, a lot of people come. Theres lots of room for frisbee, soccer, and other things. I suggest you bring a blanket though for the good spots which are on the sand because of the lake. The view is spectacular. Perfect place for the whole family :) We go every year.

Super beautiful scenery with plenty of places to sit and relax or do something more active. There's an awesome volleyball court right on the beach and the water is so warm and relaxing if you find a good spot to swim away from the vegetation. There are a lot of boats on the water and people fish off the docks at certain points of the day. Never too crowded, because the park is sort of tucked away from the main road and it seems easy to miss if you don't know about the location already. Overall a very chill place with gorgeous views to hang out. Would recommend visiting during sunset.

The park itself is great. Big playground, sandy beach, dog park, etc. Lots of deer out and about in the evenings. We recently utilized the boating part of the park for kayaking. They have a nice boat ramp with docks to get in and out of the water. However, with all the bigger boats in the water, it isn't really kayak friendly. There is a calmer part of the lake with less boats to the west of the boat ramp, but it is small. Going out in the open waters of the Portage Lakes made us feel like we were going to get run over. Other than that, the park is a great place.
