When we struck out at coyote creek we headed over to Morphy lake. This lake was in the direct path of the recent fires and appears to have been just absolutely devastated . Everything has been rebuilt and from what I can remember, better than before. The grandson managed to get a few bites but couldn’t get them landed. From what we saw there were lots of fish being pulled out and they all looked good to us. The lake is full and very busy. The road in is very narrow and would not be a good idea with a large rig. Our 20’ camper would have barely fit if we had brought it with us. The lake itself is beautiful and clean. The picnic and camping spots are all newly redone and very nice. This is a pack it in, pack it out lake so make sure to bring trash bags with you to pack out what you bring. Lots of shoreline to fish and play. This will be one of our ‘tent’ spots when we’re feeling...
Read moreThis place is open for overnight camping again after several years of only day use. A fire burned through a few years ago and you can see the extensive damage it did on the hills. However the area around the lake was mostly protected and there are still plenty of trees and foliage.
The camp sites are meticulously maintained and a grounds crew comes by daily to empty the fire pit l, wack weeds and clean the bathrooms. The campsites are pretty close to each other so don't expect much privacy.
The main disadvantage is that the hiking options are non-existent. The lake is essentially and island of State owned land surrounded by private land that is fenced off with barbed wire and lots of No Trespassing signs. There is a road that goes up towards the higher peaks that you can walk but it's also surrounded by private property and you pass by...
Read moreBeen to Morphy lake maybe 5 or so times. This trip was first time introducing the family. My 4 youngest really enjoyed themselves, the wife was shocked at how still the water was along with how green the trees were. Morphy got some upgrades! New camp sites to go along with the new dam that caused the park to shut down. Nice flat and level sites mean more room for large tents plus canopies, chairs, etc... First night was a bit rowdy with some kids that were not actually camping at the lake, but the guys that maintain the park were on top of it and got everything cleaned up in the morning. No reservations here! Leave early and find a good spot. No dumpsters due to the occasional bear so pack out, and bring your own firewood to toss in the camp rings because there's nothing to...
