Forest Park Carousel Amusement Center – A Whirl Through Time

Tucked inside Forest Park like a secret from another era, the Forest Park Carousel Amusement Center is a true treasure—and not just for the little ones. Yes, there are rides and all the joyful chaos you’d expect from a neighborhood amusement spot, but the real crown jewel here is the historic carousel itself.

This isn’t some modern replica with LED lights and plastic horses. This is the real deal—an original, hand-carved masterpiece dating back to the early 1900s, restored with love and spinning with stories. You can feel the history as it turns, the craftsmanship in every detail. It’s the kind of thing you don’t see much anymore, and honestly, it’s worth the trip just to witness it in motion. It’s like stepping into a living postcard from the past.

The rest of the amusement center has that same old-school charm. It’s not overwhelming like the big theme parks—it’s manageable, affordable, and filled with genuine smiles. The kind of place where memories are made on a summer afternoon, and where grandparents can point and say, “I remember coming here when I was your age.”

A piece of Queens history still going ‘round and ‘round....

Even on a overcast day we made it out to this wonderful carousel in Queens. The carousel is a city landmark and all it's items are hand carved. You really see the intricate art that goes into each piece. The lil one loved her first carousel ride and being around other kids. There is a snack bar in front and a decent sized event space for parties while today there was a kid party going on. Also a games booth too to win prizes. Carousel rides run only a few dollars. A magic show also occurs in the afternoon. Wonderful carousel in Forest Park with nearby parking. You can always go into the park and playgrounds as well. Makes for a fun afternoon. You'll hear about other bigger name carousels in the city but this one really is a gem and shows the great restoration work that was put into it. Tigers, horses, even family seating on the carousel....

A Woodhaven treasure and landmark. The Forest Park Carousel will bring you back in time when you were a kid and life was a grand adventure. Built in 1903 and moved to Forest Park in 1972 thereby replacing the previous Carousel that was destroyed by fire, this work of art built by the Muller Brothers is one of the very few Carousels which remain in New York City. When you desire to relive the good old days when there were few worries and life was a joy, the Woodhaven Carousel will enrich your heart and soul. Plenty of parking for adjacent is the Forest Park Bandshell, across from Victory Field which are nestled within the beautiful nature preserve of Forest Park. Be young again with your children and spend the day. Dr....

If you cherish things from the past, then you will enjoy taking a ride & pictures of this original carousel. Just the faint smell of the oil that gets this huge ride going is enough to take me back in time to 1903, when this ride was built. It was moved here in 1972 from Massachusetts. The front horses (amongst other animals), in the front remain stationary, while the horses in the back on the upper level traditionally go up & down. This carousel moves rather faster than most of today's common carousels, and is much larger in comparison as well. It is worth the visit to take a ride on this beauty! My toddler daughter had a blast & this is 1 of her favorite carousels now.

Antique carousel hidden in a tiny "theme park" in Forest Park. It's definitely seen better days, but it runs! Depending on who is running the carousel, may impact music selection? Not sure. First time I went, they were playing pop music and the operator let us ride twice since there was no one else there, but the second time I went they had classic carousel music and no offer of a second spin around even though there was no one else in sight on any of the rides or the entire area.

The carousel ride was very pleasant and enjoyable. The ticket price of $4 per ride was ok. The train ride was short. The park is small and has only a few rides but having a small amusement park inside the forest park is great because you can take your kids for a fun break( after they're tired of running fun). I would give it a 3 stars but extra star because my daughter loved the train ride.
