This is an absolute gem in New York!!! The historic aircrafts maintained by the group of volunteers doing amazing job! I randomly found it on google, because my son is obsessed with planes. We took a walk by ourselves, but then we were kindly joined by a very nice and knowledgeable gentleman who guided us into a few stories and interesting facts! The fact that this place is being maintained 100% by volunteers gentlemen ( Idk probably ex military or just some enthusiasts) is an absolute respect. These people are even crafting the missing or broken parts for these historic planes just right there on the premises, so we can explore and see those artefacts as they are and educate our kids. Please if you visit, leave a donation ( there are a few boxes around the area). This amazing museum is absolutely free, but those gentlemen deserve to have some help from us for a wonderful and important job...
Read moreThis is the free museum that has restored jets, helicopters, jet engines, and the jeep on the display. I wish more exposure should be given to this place. This is the hidden jam of Floyd Bennett Field and Brooklyn. The museum has Douglas A4 Skyhawk in decent exterior shape. Late senator John McCain was A4 pilot during the Vietnam War. I was given a tour of the hanger by Mr. Paul who gave us the history lesson of the place and jets along with the helicopters. This museum is managed by the volunteers and National Park Service. I wish public school kids were given the educational tour of this place to learn the past of Floyd Bennett Field. Amelia Earhart once flew from Floyd Bennett Field. Please come visit Hanger B on Saturdays, and there is no entry fee to visit FBF. Hanger B has their...
Read moreI've been a New Yorker the last 20 years but I'm a native of panhandle Florida, home of the cradle of naval aviation and its Museum of Naval Aviation, an absolutely amazing place. I spent a lot of time there growing up and always asked to go if were near there. It is an absolute travesty to have a place with the volunteers that HARP does, its expertise the collection of aircraft it does and the potential in its facilities. Yet it seems to attract little from the City of New York. Transport to get here is one issue but that could be remedied. You would think the New York Department of Ed would do more with it or have a high school here like they have done with The Harbor School on Governors Island. I love, love, love this place. As another reviewer said it is a wonderful little unknown...
