Worst Campground I've Ever Stayed At.
I didn't have high hopes, being that it's an abandoned airport. The location has a lot of potential but the NPS is wasting it. Sites are tiny. About a third of the size of the next smallest site I've had elsewhere. Zero sense of privacy. If you have a normal level conversation in your tent, the other campers all around you will hear.
I had the worst site of all because two trails that lead to the bathroom and parking lot converge in the center of site G32, making for a lot of foot traffic, both day and night. Having people walking by with flashlights pointed at your tent and talking all night is not fun. But no worries about them waking you because you are in the flight pattern for JFK airport so you won't be sleeping, anyway.
Aside from all of that, there's really not much to do here. The website said there's an aviation museum but it was closed and looked abandoned. The site also said there's a bus stop nearby. You'd have to walk at least 45 minutes on hot pavement to get to the bus from the campsites.
The RV section was literally an abandoned airfield paved in concrete. The waterfront was full of construction debris. The plants consist of what you'd see in an abandoned lot down the block and there's poison ivy everywhere.
On the positive side, the employees were polite and friendly. The trailer bathrooms were clean. It's conveniently close. I don't think I'll be going back, though. As it is, I paid for two nights but only stayed one. It...

We attended a Yeshiva Dinner at FBF. The dinner program was fabulous and this review is only in relation to the location, not the event we attended.
My wife and I arrived at the location for the dinner roughly “on time” for when the dinner program itself was scheduled to begin—after the shmorg. This was a dinner that was expecting over 2000 people so we figured we’d come a little “late” with the recognition we’d have to walk a little further. From finding the correct entrance to parking the car it was a 30-40 minute process. It was highly frustrating and we literally almost turned around when traffic stood still for almost ten minutes. Ten minutes of traffic standing still when you’re now running late is an eternity. I’m happy we didn’t turn around as the dinner was fabulous and we gained a lot from attending.
However, even after we parked the car, the path into the hall and then out of the hall was treacherous very unkind. Bathrooms were scarce and not very clean.
I’d basically rather go anywhere else for an...
Read moreA great open space on the very South end of Brooklyn part of the Gateway National Parks. I use it mostly for biking because its easy to get to with a paved bike path that runs along side Flatbush Ave. that can be reached from the Rockaways, Canarsie, and just about anywhere via Flatbush Ave.
Once inside its virtually car free with miles of open old runways (where Amelia Earhart once took off) to ride your bike. But also has open parking fields that people use to learn to drive.
Into RC planes or cars? They have a RC flying area (must join flying club) and a really cool RC race track where racing events are held.
Tuesday nights they have bike racing, though you have to join the bike club and pay a entry fee to race, but is free to watch.
There are camping grounds for the outdoors and RV types and hanger B holds vintage aircraft. During the summer they have Kayak trips in Jamaica Bay.
Events held here include county fairs, concerts, and recently the Tomato Battle!
A great place to experience some great outdoor fun in...
